    Well,

The mondi was running fine until the 'slow down' light came on. Took it in, cats OK. Further searching revealed a rodent in the ECU!!! I think he was trying to send me a message that I was driving too fast...

this was not an easy place to get to - how did he find his way in there?? Parked indoors, etc..

Mice can fit through incredibly small holes. You'd be surprised where they can get to inside a car. And just because the car is in a garage doesn't mean you are immune from mice. If you found one in the car, chances are he had friends hanging around. Get yourself some D-con rodent killer or similar pellets that come in those handy little containers, and put them in various places around the edge of the garage. Or if you have an exterminator, have him set some poison bait out for them, plus some sticky pads in various places. That should take care of the problem.

(Tree-huggers, feel free to flame. I prefer my house and my garage to be rodent-free.)

If you have pets, you might want to steer away from the poison.

Good luck those mice can be hell on engine bays. Especially in the winter.

Maybe the mouse was trying to keep your ECU warm? :) If the cats were ok, maybe you could send them after the ECU mouse... :p

On a more serious note, as mentioned above, if you have other pets then you don't want them eating the poisons or getting noses/paws/tails caught in traditional mouse traps. I'd try something along these lines (see image, no affiliation with linked site):

I'm not sure what local stores in Texas might supply that kind of thing, so hit the Yellowpages - but I reckon that's the sort of product you're looking for. I'd place them round the house and one near each wheel of the car when it's in the garage. Good luck! :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I would say the cats aren't working properly if they're allowing a mouse into the ECU. :D

    (THEORY A )

The circuitry of an ECU does contain several MOS FET's.

It is quite possible, due to all the outsourcing of electronic component manufacturing to the Far East, that an error in language translation was made -----

    "M-O-S F-E-T" misinterpreted as "M-O-U-S-E F-E-E-T"

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    (THEORY B )

If this car is a Ferrari, then this is a manufacturing defect, which should be covered under warranty --- you may even wish to check at your local dealership for factory recall notices.

Because that may be the mouse which is supposed to be installed in the A/C system ---- mounted next to the ice cube which it blows across to generate cold air inside the passenger compartment (i.e., "Italian Automotive Air Conditioning").

And, to answer the original question, what is "the function of mouse in the ECU" ???

Simply put, its function is to slather every surface with urine, fill the case with turds, and eat the insulation off all the wires.
