I drove a 360 Spider a couple of weeks ago and ALMOST bought it, but I just couldn't justify the price. I hope the prices come down, but in the mean time I found a deal in a new Ford GT. So I'm selling my 355 before the GT gets here in 3 weeks.

Please read my ad and let me know what changes I need to make. I didn't go into all the little details I have done in the past 3 months, but this car is really nice and someone will get a great car that can be driven.

    http://www.ffcobra.com/355.htm

As for the price, my plan is to do a Buy It Now on eBay for $79,000 but set a lower reserve. I was thinking that I would set the reserve for $69,000. I think it will get over the reserve quickly. I really need to get about $75,000 but I'll take my chances by setting a lower reserve. If it goes for less, then someone will get a great deal.

    Thanks for the help,

    - Bill

Car is beautiful. The placement before that historic sign is absolutely classic, but your intended pricing may be a bit high.

You might be best to determine what your bottom line is, and then set that as the reserve. What you need to get and what you will get may be vastly different. So, be prepared for possible disappointment.

You might want to wait on that GT until you sell your 355.

ButitNow is costly through eBay, and it rarely works.

Check other ads for your year and model and values.

    Thanks for the comments.

The Ford GT is coming. I already wired the money; so the 355 will be sold before it gets here. As for my pricing, I have that figured out. I was just looking for input on the ad design and wording.

I have it priced right; $79,000 Buy It Now, $69,000 reserve. It will sell because of how nice the car is and even if I just break the $69,000 mark I will sell it. I would rather get $75k, but I will take $69,000 if that's all it goes for on eBay. My loss will be someone elses deal.

    Thanks again,

    - Bill

    Bill,

$69K is a smoking deal considering what has been done to it in the last few months. Your ad looks as detail and complete as can be. You shouldn't have any problems getting your reserve. Good luck.

I would not say you just refinished the driver's side seat bolster. I would just include the picture of it and say 'The leather is in very good condition with no visible wear'. I think your pricing makes sense, and I hope you get the Buy it Now. The car looks great, I would let the pictures do most of the talking, but stress that the major service has been completed and other items have also been addressed so the car is more than just a 355 with service done recently. Good luck with the sale, and have fun in the new GT!

Thanks Bill, you are right about the bolster. I'l change that in the ad.

I hope you don't mind, but i also added your text, "The major service has been completed and other items have also been addressed so this car is more than just a 355 with service done recently." That was a good point to add to the text.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

I do eBay for a living and my advice to you would be. Best bet is dont set a reserve, people dont want to have to find out what you want for the car. Its a waste of time and turns alot of people away. Its a proven fact that if you just set that car with no reserve at the money you want, 69,000 let the bidders who are serious set the final determining price on the car. They will know what its worth. Also, make sure to have your # in the ad, this way anyone serious with questions can call, also helps that you might sell the car outside ebay this way which works out good most of the time. Let us know how it goes.

Sounds good. Buyers are finicky, so describing your services to the car this way does not make people think they are getting a car that is troublesome (like a car that breaks all the time). Good luck with the sale, and post some pics of the new GT when you get it!

Agree completely and having just sold my 355 with the "help" of EBay (it was purchased by someone outside of EBay who saw it there) my car did get a great deal of attention (about 20 requests and questions within 8 hours of posting). People like the no reserve option, and I also left my number for contact and this is how I ended up doing the deal.

As an FYI I sold my '96 red/tan spider with 38k miles on it for $74.5K and was willing to let it go for $72.5K, but since the buyer wanted me to take it off of EBay I gave him the former number and said as soon I as I saw a wired deposit ($5K) I would pull the auction. EBay gave me a larger, product focused audience and I sold the car within 4 days of posting the ad.

    Best of Luck.

Sorry to hear you got a GT. Try to make sure all the recalls have been performed already. many a GT owner have been locked out of the car away from home. Not to pee on your picnic, but the GT really is a lemon of the first order. The car is awash in problems.

    I feel for you.

Is ebay not like a physical auction regrading reserves. What I mean is would'nt you be obligated to sell the car at 50k if thats all that was bid?

Sorry for the ignorance - I just thought you needed a reserve to protect your self...all the talk about don't bid if you can't buy etc - is it only a one way street on ebay?

I hope you set a reserve.....
If so, you don't have to sell for anything less than the reserve price set by you. If there is no reserve, go back and change it.
    ---revise item---- link

~EDIT:~ I just looked it up, there is a reserve. No need to sell for any other price than what your reserve price is.

    Nice car by the way

I believe you can get around it. If you state in your Ad that the 355 is Listed elsewhere, you can end the Auction Early.I'm pretty sure you can Cancel the Bids up till the last day.I still don't understand starting the Bidding so Low. The Hype will get Folks excited on lesser Value items, but on F-Cars you are going to bring out EVERY Bottom Feeder,Deadbeat etc. When this Auction ends, check out how High some of these "Bidders" were willing to Bid.The MAJORITY of them don't have the Finances or Cash to Purchase it. Not to mention the deluge of E-mails you will receive. If it was me, i would only want SERIOUS Bidders only !!! That's my take.

Yes, I may have it sold. I showed the car to once last week, twice on Sunday and once on Monday. The Monday guy wants the car, but needs to see if he can get the money together before I sell it to someone else. We have agreed on a price, but without the cash, it's not a deal.

I also showed the car to a really nice young man this evening. He currently drives an M3 (very nice car) and this would be his first exotic. It would be cool to see it go to this guy because he plans to drive it every day. That's cool! In any case, the first with the right amount of cash gets the car.

By the way, I didn't accept a deposit from the first guy because he needed a couple of days to cash in some stuff and wanted me to hold it until Weds evening. I didn't agree to do that, but I did take it off of eBay as a courtesy to him.

I've had a lot of calls on the car just from the eBay ad. It seems that there is a shortage of Berlinetta's for sale right now. I have two more people that want to see it next weekend if it doesn't sell. I may not need to re-list it on eBay, but if it doesn't sell by Monday I'll run it again.

Oh yeah, I have had several of Level One emails: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112473 And even one of the Level Three... brought a digital camera, video camera, 355 "buyers check list", and told me all about the "other cars" he's owned to make me feel better about him buying the car. I asked him if he wanted to flat bed it to Ferrari of Atlanta to get a PPI done he said, "That's OK, I think I have looked it over well enough to know that this is a very nice car and I'll be calling you tomorrow with an offer." Did he call? Nope.

    Wish me luck,

    - Bill

I couldn't make a deal with the two buyers, so I re-listed it on eBay. I was going to wait until next Monday, but I think it might be better to give people the weekend to come check out the car.

Thanks for the help, this time I used someone's advice about getting rid of the reserve. This time I did a no reserve auction.

I bought my 1997 911 6yrs ago and my 1997 355 last year. I mainly used Ebay like a big classified paper. As a buyer I was turned off by the BUY IT NOW because most of those prices were top dealer retail prices whither the car deserved it or not. Also, I skimmed over those with really long bid times some where several days (it does allow more time to be seen though)because it seems that the bottom feeders freenzy for the first 90% of the bid time dreaming that they might some how buy a exotic ferrari for $100 because no one was paying attention. It seems most real buyers come in towards the last 1 or 2 days. If there was not a number or a easy way to reach the seller for questions I generally ignored it also. (I am currently shopping for a late 80s 911 to modify for racing to add to my collection that is why I am putting in my two bits). When I contact people I find it difficult to get concrete info, you always here it is a great car, runs great and doesn't need anything which is probably correct but it is also salesmenship 101. I am a more active buyer when sellers have in front of them the exact dates and what services were done or not done and can give concrete info and a number and contact person of a mechanic that can confirm and who mechanically knows the car and a contact number for places that do inspections. Also I think it helps to mention that the car is listed else were and can be sold outside Ebay. PS I have bought all my cars outside Ebay but Ebay usually put me i ncontact.

    Hope this helps

    Greg
