It's been about 6 weeks since we've made the move over to a Mac. For the most part, it's great. But iPhoto is driving us both crazy. For those of you very fluent in Macanese, please let me know if I'm missing something incredibly basic, or if it is in fact as screwy as it seems. Our problem is in the file layouts. In my iPhoto Library, I have all the Rolls labeled nicely and so on. But that only accounts for about half of our pictures. The rest are buried in the computer. Sometimes I'll make a file for, say, websized photos. I'll save them to the Library, but they don't show up. Then it's the folder trail of Pictures-->iLibrary-->Originals/Modified-->2006-->HopeTheFolderIsHere. What's the secret? Everyone says how much they love the application, but right now neither of us can stand it. It seems much more complicated than the Windows style.

Open up iPhoto and try: "File" then "New Album" then "Import"...select only the pictures you want in that specific album according to how you sort them say for example all the Ferraris in one and create another for say Lambos.

Also, when I transfer pictures to my computer from my digi. cam. I just create a folder on the desktop and dump them all there so I don't have to dig through folder upon folder and sub-folder etc.

    I hope that helps.

    Best,
    Shaun

Thanks Shaun. But when I try to import photos, it says "Can't import. File is already in the Library". But they're not--they're buried. I can eventually find things if I'm patient enough. I just wish it would all be in one location or another. It's almost too clever for its own good.

it organizes the photos by when they were uploaded... 2006-->Month(1-12)-->day(1-31), and if the pictures have a date tag added to them the pictures are saved to that date, rather than upload date

I'm a new mac user as well and had a similar problem caused by filevault on my mac, and what I did was to rebuild the library.

This is one of the things you do when nothing else seems to work, it this doesn't work either there are apps on the web that allow you to do more in depth library reconstruction... back up everything before you try anything!
