On an 83 Mondial QV, where are the adjustment points for caster, camber, and toe-in? I have the shop manual and have shown it to my mechanic but he can't figure it out (yet) and doesn't want to blindly tinker with the set-up. Also, does the vehicle need to be weighed; and with how much weight, and placed where, to properly do alignment?

Weight characteristics are in the OM/WSM. Usually it is 1/2 tank of gas, weight for 2 people and luggage. Tire pressures should be set to normal specifications. If your tires are badly worn, fit new before you align otherwise you'll have to repeat.

Alignment specs are in the OM and the setting procedure described in the WSM. On my GTB (and I think your generation of Mondial is the same), the alignment is affected by (horse shoe) shims placed on the lower control arm mounting points (front and rear) and the upper and lower ball joint mounts at the front, with plate shims. Toe is of course set (at the front) with the tie rods as well.

If you don't have the books, suggest you get them. Hard copies are available from time to time through dealers and eBay.

You need to take it to a wheel alignment specialist, not your normal mechanic. Any wheel alignment person would be easily able to figure out the alignment points, such as adjusting the steering rack ends and adding or removing shims. If your mechanic can't already figure that out from the shop manual, since it has all that and the specs, he's not the right guy for the job.

    Thanks a bunch!
This technician is one who routinely does alignment at the shop where I take all my cars, and I think he is excellent. That is why I was surprised that he couldn't figure it out despite having the specs and schematics from the manual. I left him the books to study and will pass on the info I have learned thus far. I'm sure we'll get it done.
    Thanks again.
