    Hello "F"-chatters,

I'm in the process o changing the shift shaft seal in my 79 308GTB,

I have to raise the engine slightly (3/4 of and inch maybe).

Other than backing off the engine mount bolts a little, do I need to decouple the cat. converters?

    Please help!

    Thanks, Chris.

remove the front 2 engine mount bolts completly. Undo the muffler hangers on either side of the muffler. Rasie engine slowly and carefully. Withdraw shifter shaft. Install new seals, put a little bit of lube on them and the shaft and slide shaft back into hole. Work it in and out a few time to spread the lube evenly. Don't forget to put the dust cover back on the shaft before you slide it into the trans!

In addition I disconnect the torque bar on top of the engine.

I'd think you'd need to loosen the bottom nut on the two rear engine mounts too. I tried moving my GT4's engine up with only two mounts loosened and it wouldn't budge; I ended up lifting the car instead.
