Although this might belong in the Motorcycles section, this race is too good to not be brought to your attention here. So, if you've got access to Speed Channel (or whatever you've got that shows MotoGP) please watch today's race at Australia's Phillip Island (tape delayed). It's showing in America at 6:00 p.m. Eastern. I guarantee you that it will be worth your watching.

I was at Philip island gor the moto gp, it was my first moto gp race i have attended and i would recomend it to any body who enjoys racing. I have attended the melbourne grand prix every year since 1996, I would say i enjoyed watching the motorbikes more than the current F1 cars. For instance on the last lap the lead changed 3 times. The atmosphere is alot better than the f1, every one is there to have a good time and to enjoy the race. I went to cowes the night before the race and it was just mayhem, people everywhere, motorbikes everywhere, women everywhere, what else could you ask for? We were walking down the main street and you would see a few riders walking around, eating dinner or just checking out the sites. As for the winner (world champion) Valentino Rossi, this proves he is the best rider of all time. He has won the world chamionship on a Yamaha, a motorbike that would be lucky to make the poduim last year. Against Honda, clearly the best motorbike in the field. What else is left for him? Rumour has it a Ferrari F1 drive. Would be interesting, and its been a while since a motorbike champion has made the switch to F1, and if anyone is going to do it, it will be Vale, at 24 years of age he still has plenty of time on his side.

Don't forget that apart from anything else..Rossi has done this in his first year with yamaha..

he's won the championship on 125cc, 250cc, 500cc and now MotoGP. What a star...and a very funny guy as well.

Future F1? Well, he was well off the pace, but you'd reckon...with more practice...hmmmmm. I'd LOVE to see it.

As the result of the race has now been revealed in this thread I think it would be helpful if the title of the thread was changed to reflect this, or Paul Vincent should edit his post to say that if you read any posts after his you'll get the result! :)

I watched the race as I've been following Rossi's career for a few years. The guy is an absolute phenomenon!! I know Ferrari weren't a great team when Michael joined them, but it took him a few tears to drag them to the front. Rossi has done the equivalent of Michael joining Sauber or Toyota and then winning the Championship at the first attempt! He is an amazing rider. There have been many rumours about him moving to F1, but I don't think he'd enjoy it as much as Moto GP. When he wins in Moto GP his celebrations are amazing. He wouldn't be allowed to cover his overalls with a white t-shirt like he did yesterday if was in F1. The sponsors would complain. Spectacular burn-outs and do-nuts wouldn't be allowed either as that would wear the tyres and lower the ride height too much! I think fun is against the rules in F1!!
