Hi guys..been awhile. I've been on the sidelines waiting for the euro to fall..well, the time is nigh! Question..What are your feelings on the plexi window cars..I think they look sooo cool..In the long run, do you feel they will be more collectable? And are they uncomfortable heatwise since you cant open the window all the way? Since they were early cars, obviously I could bring back to the states sooner..Comments please? Thanks!

Why does that matter? You have aircon anyway.

Some people like the plexi windows cars, but some dont. If its for use primarily for the street wind-down windows are both more comfortable and safer.

The plexi-windows become quite scarred over time and visibility out of them is not that great. Of course if you are on the track its not an issue focusing forwards, but on the road it can even be dangerous (personally I like to have clear visibility out of the side windows on the street!). I can also tell you that when tooling around in a car with sliding windows, the limited opening can get to be a real pain in the rear after a while.

I think any well-looked-after example of an an F40 will be collectible in the long run, and I don't think a plexi car will necessarily be more so.

    Welcome back man.........

Just pick up an extra set of doors......one of each kind.....get some seats too, they are getting scarce!!!!

Realistically, I'd think it'd be easy to fabricate new windows, Napolis does it all the time....

I love the plexi sliding windows cars, and they are much rarer. Only about 15% or so have them and the red inner door panels.

As for safety they are safer then glass in case of an accident and as for the scarring that could occur, that can be polished out easily.

Plus they are even lighter! Go for it!

I think the plexi adds to the look and character of the car. Personally if the car came stock with lexi I would keep it, but if not then I would not add it. But if you like it and want to add it, and plan to sell it someday, then as long as you could restore it back then why not. Personally I like to roll the window down and hear that glorious sound. The lexi is a cool look though, perhaps the only mod I would consider besides exhaust. Weight difference, why bother, really.

According to Ferrari records, there are 56 cars ordered with sliding windows by clients, and there has at times been a guess that the first 50 cars had this from factory. However, this is not true, since some of the first 50 cars have glass windows. But probably 80 or 90 cars have sliding plexi windows. Rarity is always rewarded, but not by very much, but the look is fantastic. They do get scratched, but it can be polished by special techniques. Practicality however is another matter. Sliding windows stops you from putting your head out of the window, which is useful many times. My old F40 was with glass windows and my present one is with Plexi. Cooler but very limiting. But on the other hand - what is practical about an F40......?

    Regards

"what is practical about an F40......?" : nothing!

I remember coming back from south of France to Paris with my F40 during summer time, no way to use only the air con, not enough, and hopfully my car was having normal windows, so 500 km with the windows openned, difficult on the highway to stay at 130/140 (km!) for few hours, but funny trip.

I should recommend normal windows against nice and rare slinding ones, or change the air con!
