Thanks for the info guys, however, my mechanic claims that the parts most in dire need of are the "caps" at the ends that snap onto the plugs. These are a very unique size & shape to fit. So unfortunately, just replacing the wires is not an option. (My car is in pieces with engine out from the belt service, waiting on a solution.)

There is NOTHING special about the Ferrari spark plug wires. Ferrari DOES NOT make the leads. I when through the same headache when I had to get new wires for my 348. The only thing special about the wries was the Cavallino stamped on the rubber boot that covers the plug, and that is removable. I'm not for sure on the 512tr but for my 348 the wire were either made by Bosch or Beru (? spelling). I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for the 512tr.

I almost made my own wires. The only thing that stopped me was finding the proper clips that went on the end of the wires so they could be plugged into the ends. Other than that I was able to find the wire and the plugs. The other thing was that you had to buy the supplies in bulk, so it wouldn't have been cost effective. None the less I was still able to get a set for $600. That is still expensive but better than getting burned buy the dealer.

Trust me as I have torn appart the spark plug leads. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT THEM. The only thing you are paying for it the stupid dancing donkey on th rubber boot.

Okay I have some good news. After looking at the link poste by No Doubt in the other thread http://www.kingsborne.com I gave them a call. I talled to the sales rep. and was told that they could make a set of wires for your car. I wasn't sure of the year but I did tell them that it was a 512tr. Anyway, they said that if you send the old wires in they could make new ones, but that they had to have the originals so they could get the proper specs. I asked about the price an guess what they charged? ..........................wait for it.................wait for it

    wait for it......................................

$150 !!!!!!!!!! Now that is what I'm talking about! So just remove the rubber boot from the plug and then send those bad boys in. The lady I talked to also said to give them a call and let them know you were sending the leads in so that they would looks for them.

    Heh, heh, heh!

    Yeah, baby!

Anyway, I'd like to see Daniel at Jack Russell Racing, or Paul, or Ferrari Parts Exchange, or any of our other fine F-Chat sponsors stock up on Kingsborne plug wires for 348's & TR's, etc.

That would save us from the turn-around time involved in mailing our old plug wires in, waiting for custom wires to be made and then shipped back to us.

They could probably work out a discount with Kingsborne, mark it up fairly on their side, and sell 348 plug wires with a 24 hour delivery for $199 or so.

Think about it...new plug wires IN STOCK waiting for us!

For non-concours daily drivers and weekend show-offs, the Kingsborne wires are surely the way to go. Deliver new plug wires for under $200 in less than 24 hours.

    Or

Pay $4,000 for OEM plug wires.

    What a dilemma!

I got factory wires from T.Rutlands for like $650 for the whole set. The wire from the coils to the Dist. were burned and also check the condition of the carbon rod and backing spring in the distributor cap (center conductor). Good luck!
