Guys, I have read allot of posts about plug wires and I too am seeking a better solution. With all the possibilities out there with many dbl. overhead cam engines now in production has anyone really found a plug wire that works. Most specifically a replacement for the cover/plug for the 308 GTSi engine. As per birdmans' post I have purchased a set of Accel ProStock wires and I am now searching for plugs /covers for the holes. I read a post about the hemi wires but it was not definitive-------------- has anyone used them with an excellant result? lost in the UP

I've just joined, so this reply might be too late. I've just changed my ignition wires, 1985 308QV. I used 8mm Taylor pro spiral resistance wire available at speed shops by the foot. Add 135 degreee terminals and reused the red boots and plug extenders. Wires are red, looks great and works great. I'm told to be sure to use resistance wires otherwise you will send crazy signals to your electronic control modules in the back and your car may not run properly.

I have 4100' feet the Taylor 7mm Spiral-Core wire left on my spool. In my book nothing else compares in quality and there is none of this shaving the outer sleeve or reaming the cap holes. New wire with new spark plug sleeve boots and new umbrella boots and you are set. I have yet to replace one of the 7mm Taylor wires I make up in 15 yrs now.

The factory umbrella boots work fine on the i cars where they have a stand tube...it is the internal carb car boots that leave a lot to be desired. I have considered making a mold for these and having them made in silicone but the demand just isnt there.

    Been there, done that.

If you really want the car to run 100% and I mean 100%, the only ones that consistently perform, without any of those "strange RPM-specific" misfires are the one that are available from Dave Helms. That's all I stock and all I use. Period. Prior to my acquaintance with Dave Helms, I used a very similar Taylor spiro-core wires.

Yes...there are many, many less-expensive wire solution out there. It really comes down to time versus money. If you enjoy potentially chasing your tail for weeks on end, trying to find that elusive misfire...Shelp Boys or Advance-Not Auto Parts might be the way to go.

However, if you enjoy doing things "right the first time"...and enjoy the sound of a Ferrari running on all cylinder at any RPM, the Taylor spirocore wires will bring a smile to your face. Add those, coupled with a good set of MSD plug connectors, an hour of so of your time...and a pro-grade crimper, you'll be one happy camper.

Need references from delighted customers...I'll gladly send them on to you.

    David

Thanks for the reply! As a newbie I have no idea who Dave Helms is or how to contact him. Since I have already purchased a set of wires from Accel I will give them a try but I would like to put Daves, contact in favs for future reference. Thanks, Lostbowl

Dave Helms = God. An incredibly knowledgeable Ferrari technician. Without doubt, one of the best in the world.

Forget the Accel wires and go with a set of Taylor wires from Dave. A set of non-OEM wires (e.g., Accel) is not exactly a lot of money.
