After reviewing how much my medical office spent this last year on Polaroid film, I am thinking about buying 3-4 identical point and shoot cameras and a business inkjet or smaller color laserjet to replace the Polaroids. I'm a dermatologist, and our office is constantly taking pictures of moles, rashes, etc.

I need a point and shoot that can do reasonable close ups, with good flash coverage. Ideally, they would work without adjusting the aperture, and without needing to go to manual focus (though having that option, if needed, would be great).

These are chart note photos, so the quality needs to be good but not great. Some of the employees using them are "technology shy"--I've tried to get them to use my Canon Eos 20D, macro lens and ringlight flash--no dice. Also, these cameras will be left somewhat unattended--so they ideally would be cheap enough (say under $400) that it isn't a huge issue if one develops legs.

    Any thoughts?

I have a Sony DSC-T7, and yes it can do macro shots. I'm pretty sure you can find a T7 at a really cheap price nowadays since it's been around since 2005.

Here is an example of a macro shot I just took. Not sure if this is macro enough for you. It's only a Point & Shoot camera afterall. :)

Canon Powershot series, can be had under $200, it's got all the manual adjustments, and it takes good close up pics with little fiddling.

Seconded. I had an A430 (the lowest in the series) and in macro mode it excelled! Quality and distance to target were unsurpassed imo. Highly recommended.
