I am hiking Point Reyes this weekend. Just a day trip to get out, exercise, see some nice scenery, and beat the Sacramento heat. Has anyone done long day-hikes at Point Reyes? Anywhere from the 4-6 hour length?

If someone is familiar with the park, what would you recommend? I'm thinking the hike below, although it is a little long. You should allocate a 2mph pace, not including stops. I was doing 2mph in Yosemite less than a month ago.

Has anyone done this hike (from: http://www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/hiking_guide.htm )?

Sounds like the hike I did there last year. I don't hike often and it was more than I bargained for. It was beautiful, but just too long for me. Bring lots of water, food, snacks. Also be sure to wear hiking shoes; I didn't and paid for it the next day. I'd recommend bringing a sweatshirt or jacket too. By the time we were on our way back, the fog was rolling it at the top of the mountain and it was quite cold. I just had the shorts and t-shirt I showed up in.

Here are a couple pics from my hike -

If you have to ask, that one is too long.

If you hike from the parking lot over to Coast Camp and back, it is beautiful.

Oh I know better to wear hiking shoes and bring plenty of food and water. My main concern is it taking longer than expected and making for a grueling drive back up to Sacramento. Thanks for the pics!

Thanks for the recommendation for Coast Camp. I'll check that one out!
