    Fly an aircraft into trees and then blame the airplane. Oh, well. Lucky they just hit the trees. I can think of no instruments in a C-130E that would cause you to try and collect tree parts on the bottom of the aircraft. Radar altimeter? Useless in mountainous terrain unless you have a TFR system, and C-130Es did not.

    I think those were our old workhorse USAFE C-130Es with about a million hours on them (a slight exaggeration). It scared me to death in the mid 90s when we had to certify them to carry nukes. No INS or GPS then. We finally replaced them.
