    Morning all,

I've polished my Rosso Red bonnet in the sunshine, yeah I know ... big mistake, who knew ! ;o) ... but it has now 'streaked' the polish so to speak so it looks like it does when water dries on a car bonnet without leathering ... I've polished it again 3 times and it won't improve, the paint looks smudged now rather than glossy.

Since polishing the polish out hasn't worked ... do I need to go professional cleaning route now ... or buy some Clay (Autoglym) has been recommended, will that strip it down again to natural paint, so I can then polish it again and hopefully go back to the wonderful look and shine it had before ?

Thanks for any help you can offer on this.

Clay/tardis would be worth a try before using something more abrasive

Can you post some photos first. It sounds like the polish may have dried too quickly and with a combo of a highly heated surface the chemicals have reacted and "smudged" the clear coat. I doubt you have done any damage to the paint itself. Best you post a few photos to check but I suspect a light compound with an obital should get these out.

    I would:
    - get the car in the shade ;)
    - wash bonnet with water and car wash soap
    - dry surface with microfiber cloth
    - apply wax with an electric orbital polisher using a microfiber bonnet on the polisher: important: do not use too much pressure or surface might get cloudy
    - let wax cure
    - change the microfiber bonnet on the polisher to a clean and dry one
    - remove the wax with the polisher: again: not too much pressure!
    - remove remaining wax and finish up surface by hand with a microfiber cloth
    - see if it removed the streaks

    ps UK: what sunshine? ;)
    cheers :)

At least you didn't wash it with hard water in bright sun. That would have been worse. Getting hardened reactive salts off is no fun.

As mentioned the polish dried to quickly. When you get streaking get a spray bottle of deionized water and mist it and the smudges should come off. Washing the car is just as good. If the car feels WARM to the touch you can not wash or wax your car.
