which would you buy...2001 boxster s, which can be bought in the low 30s...or a newer 2004 s2000, which can be bought in the 25k-27k price range....they are often found in the same comparison tests but they are very different car...mid vs front engine...jap vs german....4 cyl vs 6...the s2000 would still be under warranty and would be more reliable and cheaper to maintain....boxster will have a better engine note, more torque, bigger, more comfortable interior...the s2000 maybe slightly more fun to drive, higher reving..better 6 speed...and you save intially and also in the future....but its not a porsche .....yout thoughts

Not trying to be mean, but I have a question for you.

You start threads like this everyday. Hummer vs. Ferrari. Z06 versus Bentley, whatever. You start stuff like "what can be bought for 60k" is "10 sports cars better than one"

My question is, do you actually take any of the advice and buy the cars? Are you really in the market?

Or do you just come up with these scenarios to make new threads? (if so that is fine)

I am just curious, if you are like Gentry and buying 15 million cars all the time, or like Urotrash and have a 5 hour workweek.

    Your thoughts would be appreciated!

The S2000. When Porsche came out with the updated 2001 Boxster S I went and checked out and was told a 7 month wait so I bought a new S2000. Then when the Boxster S came in I traded the S2000 for it. The S2000 was far more fun to drive. Very different story with the new 987 S, That car is great

I drive a 2000 Boxster S as a daily car. I bought it about 6 months ago. Tis the same as a 2001 model. Mine has all the nice options.

The S2000 is a Honda, the Boxster a Porsche and that tells you a great deal. Performance is going to be similar, the Honda will be more "sporting" but the Boxster more refined.

I have been happy with the Boxster as a daily car. The big factors are its very nice inside with the full leather interior, the top is great, the stereo is great and the heat/AC are fantastic. The car is VERY user friendly, has lots of storage space both front and rear and the handling is phenomenal.

Plus, lets face it, the Boxster is simply a MUCH better looking car than the Honda. Looks are very important to me. The Boxster really is a gorgeous car to look at. With the top down, it lineage is clear and it definitely reminds me of the old RS60 race cars. The Boxster is so common on the roads and we are so used to seeing them that the cars great looks are often overlooked but it really is easy on the eyes. The Honda however (at least to me) is sorely lacking in visual appeal. Its a bit plain and the lines are somehow just not right.

actually, little of both,,, i have considered both of these cars and cant decide..but i have also considered many cars in the past, a few i have bought, many i havent.....but i am hooked on cars and esp sports car so i spend too much of my time thinking about them..some of the forums are food for thought...it is fun for me to see other knowledgable sport car enthusiats thoughts and opinions on various cars....if these posts bother you or the other members, just let me know and i will stop....as for my work week, i am one those idiots that has to work 60-70 hours of a high stress job to make ends meet..i have been doing so for the past 26years and will problably have to continue for another 20-30 years....

Boxster. I drive a 2001 Boxster as my daily beater and it has been great for that. Better brakes than the S2000, more comfortable, loads of storage space, great MPG, good looking and very reliable. Mine has travelled 55,000 trouble free miles.

Yes, some will tell you it's a ladies car, but so what. I drove miatas before the boxster, so that's not a concern to me. :)

One of the big selling points for me was the huge amount of storage space for a two-seat convertible. I call mine my big miata. Just as fun, more comfortable, and lots more room.

I should clarify my previous post. I only talked about fun factor in my comparison. The Porsche did blow the Honda away ever where else. Comfort, Controls, Storage, radio, especially hated the S2000 radio sitting behind that dumb flip cover. For pure just beating on and throwing around go with the S2000. For a refined car go with Porsche

I agree. IMO the boxster is a much better looking drop top than the 911.

In that price range I'd say Boxster S, since you are getting more car for the money (courtesy of that infamous Porsche depreciation). The real value in the S2000 is the MY00-03 cars which can be had for $15-23k, a lot of car for that money as well.

One thing is I'd suggest is getting a certified car if you go Boxster, it's worth it for a few more bucks (I've seen good ones in the $35k range), while in the S2000 I think you'll probably be okay w/o a warranty.

I am not usually one to judge, but I have experience in this realm of overworking. If you have to work 60-70 hrs a week for 50 years to make ends meet, your ends are meeting beyond your means. That is not a good lifestyle, no matter the perks it grants, and it will chip away at you little by little until there is little joy left in your life.

I just recently sold my S2K but it was an 02. I personally like the 00-03 S2K's way better. The 04-05 just don't have the same feel. With that being said I'd take the Boxster S anyday. The S2K is fun to drive but the Boxster has a better overall package.

I wanted to like the S2000 so badly due to it's value and Honda reliability. When the buzz finally died down I test drove one. I purchased my Boxster a few weeks later.

If they made the S2000 with a tilt steering wheel, I'd own one today. As it is, the bottom of the wheel hits the top of my legs.:(

some things, just aren't meant to be Doc. :)

Take the S2k. Cheaper to work and repair on. Easier to do maintance like oil change. The Boxster is a awesome awesome car and would probably make you look like you have more money than the impression with the S2000 but the S2000 is just more fun to drive IMO.

I can't speak for the Boxster since I have never driven one but I've owned a 03 S2k for a year and a half and have had no regrets. You really need to drive both cars for yourself and feel which is best for you so you are sure your getting what you want. I love the looks of my S, how it handles, it does have a tight cockpit however I've driven it on a 7 hour trip and not been worse for the wear and I'm 6'3 250lbs. I also love it's dual personality I can drive it around below vtec and just quietly cruise or if I'm in redline mode I can run her up to 9k all day long making all kinds of noise and causing all kind of havoc! The only complaints I have are the stock stereo sucks, and the steering wheel dosen't tilt (the top rim obstructs my view of the tach).
Another option you may consider is to get an earlier S2000 I've seen 2000's going for less than 20 and then maybe you could swing the Boxster also and have both.

thanks, most owners really seem to like the s2000, my last test drive was 6 months ago....with sport cars, test drives are colored by the weather, how you are feeling, the drivers mood, etc...so i always like to repeat test drives....the boxster s i drove 1 year ago....both nice cars...the boxster s was more refined, better interior and stereo, the s2000 was better shifting and better reving....i will try to set up a back to back drive....

Wife drives the Boxster "S" with the sports pkg. Taken it out, myself, to put it through it's paces and I do have to say, it's a ton of car for the $. Have friends that autocross the Honda car and they love it. So, it's kind of like; what do you prefer; blondes or brunettes? Both great cars, just go drive them and pick the one that fits best.
