Yes. The most dangerous pre-mediated move in F1 history (that we know about). Weirdly Senna seems to gets a pass for this by most people.

The whole knighthood fetishes he seems to have is very telling for me. The English royals and who they mix with are about the worst bunch of people imageable. And lets not forget that the current King had this disgusting beast Knighted and also used him as a personal adviser ( Sir Jimmy Savile for any guys in the US that have been luckily enough to not come across him).

I personally don't care about titles, but just to make a point.
You know that the British monarch has no power on who is nominated in the Honours List, right ?.
It's the government that decides, from a list proposed by the HL Commission, who they want rewarded.
So, it's better to go back and find out who was PM when Saville received his gong.
Also, most of the stuff about Jimmy Saville was uncovered after his death.

I understand your points. But the Monarchs have a lot more power than you would ever think (as do the House of Lords).

And it still doesn't excuse the fact that Saville was a close friend and adviser of King Charles and various high level Tory's in the 70s, 80's, 90's. Anyway, lets not open that can of worms.

In fact, many entertainers who receive honours are proposed by the BBC who does the selection for artists.

I am with you there. I don't really care about distinctions of any sort.
When a recipient is mentioned, I don't need to be reminded of his/her title.
I also know that some people turn them down.

I would assume every driver would like to drive for Ferrari at some point in their career. Especially when the check book is open.

+1 the faux criticism of LH move to Ferrari is hilarious. Senna and others were interested. Drivers arent known for turning down money and a team that gives them legacy as well if chosen by Ferrari. Ferrari PURSUED LH. Thats the part many dont appear to like. This was hardly the first approach to gain his joining the team.

I disagree with the whole honours system so am not impressed by anyone being knighted.
I don't care if anyone always dreamt of driving for Ferrari or not.
I want Ferrari to win and to have the best drivers. Having the best drivers will also attract the best engineers and managers.

I think that Lewis joining Ferrari could be a hugely positive move and I really hope it improves my team's standing. I don't understand why anything else matters.

Not necessarily. A few drivers turn down the chance to drive for Ferrari when proposed.
Others were quite happy where they were and never showed an interest.

All in all Ferrari will spend around 400 million euros in both salaries and charity donations. IMO that kind of money would be enough to attract top-notch personnel and build a stronger team for the future.

The 90s revolution brought relatively young guys (late 40s/early 50s) and unarguably the best pilot at the time (Schumi) and that bet paid huge dividends as we all know. Everyone talking about Newey - the man is 66 and his life is well-established in England; why not try to poach someone like Dan Fallows instead? Hell, why not aim for Verstappen? He's fond of Ferrari after all (his personal team will race a 296 and he owns a couple of road horseys too).

For those who follow football/soccer, this Hamilton move is way too similar to the Cristiano Ronaldo move to Juventus (no wonder, both teams are owned by the same people): Lots of razzmatazz, flashy headlines, green candlesticks, millions here, there and everywhere.
But sports-wise, the team stayed the same and even performed worse in some competitions (like the Champions League). I'd be glad to be proven wrong but I believe the same will happen in Ferrari.

I voted yes but I don't think it's a major improvement, the drivers aren't the problem there and Leclerc is arguably more error prone than Sainz, if also a little faster. If Hamilton can't match Leclerc in qualy straight away it'll look foolish. Ask again in 6 months, but on the surface it's not a step back if not a large one forward so why not...

In a few years' time, we will know if it was a magical move from Elkann to have endorsed Hamilton's move to Ferrari, or if it was a freaking waste of money that brought no result.
Of course, all the stars can align to give Hamilton his 8th title, allowing Ferrari to break his duck after 18 years.
The verdict will be pronounced on the track.

IMO, this wasn't a waste of money as Ferrari will get it all back due to Ferrari-Hamilton merchandise sales and then some.

As far as Hamilton getting his 8th, I'll wait till the formula change in 2026 as that will be a reset for everyone.

Call me a purist, but personally, I don't judge merchandise sales to be a measure of success in F1.

Only GP wins and a title would vindicate that ludicrous transfer and the money that goes with it.
