Love the concept & a lot of the styling. The rear bumper treatment does have a lot in common with Maserati GranTurismo. If I wanted an everyday Ferrari that I could also put my kids or an extra adult or two into, this ticks all the boxes. It's quite widely commented that the days of the 3-box saloon like the Merc S/BMW 7 are really numbered. At the same time cars like the 612 faced serious competition from Bentley ContiGT. They couldn't simply finesse the 612 design which is more than 8 years old. The Market has become much more competitive with cars like the AM Rapide, Porsche Panamera (they may have 4 doors, but make no mistake they're the competition). I think what irks most of us here more than the design, is the fact that Ferrari is becoming more mainstream, and perhaps in the process forsaking some of those values that most of us subscribe to. I read somewhere that Ferrari aims to sell 1,000 FF models per year, which I suspect is far more than the 612 probably even in it's launch year. Add to this the Cali, which Ferrari is churning out, and Ferraris are becomidng a lot more "common". A lot of these cars are going to satisfy demands from developing markets like China - and it would be fair to assume that they took that into account when designing the FF. Ferrari's model direction should be clearer when the 599 replacement comes out. Indications are that it will be more sportscar and less GT than the 599. If so, Ferrari would have successfully divided it's model lineup between sportscar (458/599) and GT (Cali/FF). One thing we can be thankful for - Ferrari has never had so much competition. McLaren is launching this year and Porsche has announced its intention to produce a 458 competitor. And competition drives better products.
This is very interesting. So 30% of all voters are dead positive on the car with only 12% loving it. Someone did mention that the second option is unclear. While I can see where this person is coming from, I think the second option is a sort of middle-of-the-road or less. I think it's definitely not a positive vote.
Don't be surprised if this car becomes the best-selling Ferrari 2+2 ever. It is a car where a wealthy enthusiast can take his divorce attorney and both twins he is dating with him comfortably.
I think many will change their opinions once people see it in person. It has many interesting design features and lines, IMO, but they don't seem to translate well in pictures, so far. The same went for the California and the 458, somewhat... Color will also make a huge impact as well. SG
I find the 456 is attractive; but the 612 is as good as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick and the FF is so godawful that it ruptured the very fabric of space and time with the sheer overpowering force of its mediocrity. In other words, the styling on the four seaters is going in the wrong direction.
I don't hate the FF, but I think they can do a better job. The grill doesn't work for me, as well as the whole rear section. The car's best angle is the 3/4 view from the front that kinda hide that back end and the shooting-brakish look.
I want to take this opportunity to thank those that posted pics from this years Cavallino Classic. After seeing this abomination I appreciate them even more.
WOW....what are Ferrari thinking? Very dissapointing they are going the Porsche route. The Ferrrai Cayene cannot be far off. Sad. Ferrari is changing into just another automobile Corporation with a capital C content to flog as many cars as it can.
Bloody awful! And you have to wonder how Ferrari arrive at a finished design like this when even amongst enthusiasts feelings seem to be pretty much wholly negative if this thread here on FerrariChat is any indication. Do they not try their designs out on the eyes of a select number of those with Ferrari in their blood before they commit them to metal? This is so disappointing.
Did Ferrari forget how to make beautiful cars? Get Fioravanti back to design a Ferrari that looks like a Ferrari. If they think performance only makes a Ferrari, then they might as well be Porsche. Maybe ugly is in! How do you say "Panamera" in Italian?
Few things... The Cayenne has not hurt Porsches reputation in the enthusiast community. They still make amazing cars like the GT2 and in general 911 sales are not hurting. Ferrari is not a non-profit, they are in business to make money. If they feel there is a market for a 2+2 hatchback then more power to them. Its not going to stop them from making the 458 or the Enzo successor. Why would you begrudge a company a source of revenue ?
'Heinous' certainly seems to be a most appropriate adjective for describing the FF. For this thing, one word is worth a thousand pictures. CH
One thing I've noticed is that every new Ferrari in the last decade has been despised when all one has to go by is the photos, and every one has looked much better in person. I even like the California. So I will not judge the FF until I see one in the flesh. Having said that, I will agree that it does look too much like a Z3 Coupe from certain angles. And I will admit that the first time I saw it, I assumed that it was a concept car and not intended for production!
