what luxury sedan would you buy? since its your money, cost should be a factor.... Edited by Lafun2 to reflect the poll wanted by thread starter
sorry guys, the poll didnt come thru..... i want to have the choices of bmw740i,jag, xj8, audi A8,lexus ls430,vw phaeton, mb 500s and caddy sedan deville
Out of those on your list: 1) BMW 745i 2) Audi A8 3) Mercedes S500 4) Jaguar XJ8 5) VW Phaeton 6) Cadillac DeVille 7) Lexus LS430 (yuck)
If by 740i you mean a 2001 (last year E38) short wheel base sport, then this is the car no question (I would also look at a 2001 750iL). If you mean a 745, err... BTW I see you are in MD. I have my E38 750iL here in Maryland with me (Baltimore). Also, come a weekend in Febuary, the MD7 (Maryland E38 7 series group) is getting together to go up and meet with E38ers in PA and NJ. You probably can meet up with us while we are still in Maryland and see the 7s.
if you haven't driven the new A8 yet, definitely get some seat time. it's very impressive. the S8 version of that puppy is likely to be to die for (assuming it happens). i ended up passing on the A8 'cuz i was interested at launch time and the dealers were being just flat-out dicks about pricing and availability. i bought the S55 and enjoyed it, but for new england, AWD really runs the show. i might pick up a used 2003 A8 this year to replace my wife's aging A4. they depreciate at a pretty good clip (as do most of the cars in that list). if they made a Quattroporte with AWD and a 6 Speed on the floor, i'd buy it in a microsecond. on the latter feature, MNA politely told me to bugger off. doody.
audi a8 in long wheelbase is my favorite because of need for awd in ny. if dont need that, then xjr is nice. can also go smaller with new mb csl 55 amg which is really striking looking and has crazy amg torque. wouldnt get s500 because being replaced next year and old style mb have no status. could go crazy and get new 4 door bently flying spur next year with 550 hp, awd, best interior going, and very stately. interesting that maser qport didnt make list. i wouldn't trust its reliability, dont like paddles in lux car, doesnt have good enough looks to ignore those problems. bmw also redoing 7 series with downplay of bangle style but still not enough
I would go with the A8 because of its AWD and aluminum body. I think it looks great. It has a wonderful interior. I think its interior is a huge step up over the previous A8. If I lived where it didn't snow then I would take the XJR. I really like its classic looks, supercharged V8 and I also like the fact that it has an aluminum body as well. But like someone else said if I was going to get a luxury sedan I would try to spend a little more and get the Quattroporte. It will be interesting to see if the Quattroporte depreciates as quickly as the other Maserati's. I think the Quattroporte won't suffer nearly as much depreciation since there is such a high demand for it now. Depreciation is really bad on nearly all of the cars listed here so maybe that isn't that big of a deal.
I bought my wife a 2004 Jaguar XJR to offset my recent 360 Spyder purchase. I love the thing, and at 390 horses it can scoot down the road pretty damn quick! Now if only she would let me drive it some. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would go with a Lexus! Cost is not a factor, safety is. Yesterday I saw a LS430 take a direct hit from a big rig on 57 south in LA. The guy walked away without any harm....just a bit dazed. Do not try this in any other car. Remember what happened to Oscar de la hoya's merc?
well i voted on the A8L since i have one, but the the S55 is missing. i had one also but since my wife wanted the A8l i sold it and am undecided on another toy. the A8 is very sweet indeed, to many options and features to list.
great car, i tried to exclude the super versions of the cars, such as the mb s55 or e55, the xjr, the phaeton w12d,etc...just the basic versions...i also love the maser gp, but it also was too performance oriented to be in the list...btw, the xjr is a great car...very underrated..did you get a new 05?
thanks omar, i may take you up on that...i love the previous generation 7 series...one of the great all time lux- sport sedans....great to buy used which i may still do....but the poll is only for new cars...i am not si crazy about the new 7s
IF maser did the QP with the 612 motor, and a good sequential...Itd be purfect. and AWD wouldnt be awful either...
How about loosing it at near 100mph slide, rolling over three times, and landing in a ditch? Owner and dog both were able to leave the scene with minor scratches only before anyone knew was the wiser. I missed a chance to get the remains for less than a nice steak dinner since the rims and interior were perfect. The insurance company removed the remains and the owner hasn't really persued it. Accidents of this magnitude are more than luck! Drive safe, all. Sunny Image Unavailable, Please Login
I would go for the A8. My friends mom just recently purchased one and it is one of the most comfortable cars i have ever sat in and all the electronics in that car are so awesome!
The A8 is a nice car all in all. But isnt it based on the same platform as the VW Phaeton? My real estate agent drives a new 2004 A8 here in Calgary. She was going to get it in black but dicided on the redish color insted.
