The new Solstice is expected to be the car that helps save GM. I sincerely believe it could have done that, had GM not f*cked up again. The car was set for a summer release, with the cars starting to be delivered around June. Now though, the Solstice won't actually be delivered until Fall. A few cars will be delivered in the summer, but only a few. Even the first 1000 limited edition models won't be delivered until fall. Not only does GM need the Solstice's profits immediately, but it's flat-out stupid to release a roadster in the fall! Anyone else praying for GM to pull out of the hole, and extremely dissappointed in them for being so stupid?

Sorry if I went on and on, I'm just upset at this and venting.

Is the Saturn version (aka Sky) of this also delayed?

The article I saw it in doens't mention specifics. Your guess is as good as mine.

As far as I know, no it is not. A release date hasn't been set, when it is, they will hopfully have adjusted for the Solstice.

Just heard this on the news. Reason for delay is problems with the front bumper fit and convertible top. At least GM caught the quality problems before the car hit the road this time.

"Multiple sources close to the situation at the Wilmington, Del., plant say the Solstice is suffering from fit problems on the front fascia and convertible top."

The Pontiac Solstice will be raced in Grand-Am Cup and a Solstice coupe will be made. Read this.

The taillights are the only thing I don't like on this $20,000 roadster.

I hope GM learns a lot from the Solstice. For example,

    steering feel counts

styling counts (new 2006 Mazda MX-5 weighs close to 400 pounds less, but it doesn't excite)

    fit and finish count

    and what not.

The Solstice seems like the best Pontiac since the muscle car era, or perhaps ever.

AFAIK the saturn is not based on the pontiac at all since the saturn is a rehashed vauxall vx220. perhaps the cars are on the same platform, but they are not related much beyond that unless the solstice was designed around the vx220 as well and hides it better.

The Saturn Sky and the Solstice are on the same Kappa platform. Same engine, same suspension, same tranny, etc.... The only real differences are the interior trim, body panels, and a standard equipment and option list.

I don't know what they share with the Vauxall, but the Solstice and Sky are twin-cars and have a lot in common.

blu328gts, the Saturn Sky probably won't be affected much. It is supposed to start production in early 2006. Much later than the Solstice. And it looks like they'll have this fitment issue resolved by this fall. So unless something new comes up, it should still be on schedule.

sampson, i doubt solstice profits will help or save GM. GM said they'll be making very little IF any profit from the Sky/Solstice cars. But still, it would bring much needed excitement to the Saturn and Pontiac brands. That, you can't put a profit/price on.

Sucks for GM. More problems are the last thing they need now.
