My poor little ballerina has flat lined. Died of a failing battery, after all these years, without my beloved mistress..... What can I do, what can I replace it with? The previous master was a heartless creature who installed a truck battery, heaven forbid! I want to restore her spirit & character with a new heart, not too big , not too small, just right, but alas hundreds of batteries, which one is correct? Her birth sheet said a 60 amph battery but the traders who sell them dont understand such language instead speaking cca numbers and such but how many cca,s does she need? My charging bull [shelby cobra gt500] has a 500 cca installed & my street fighter [mustang fastback hot 302] has a 450 cca fitted. Please help in cca,s as I cant bear to be without her With a tear in my eye Cliff Donnon Australia
A female Dino ???, not sure if Enzo wpould like that, still each to his/her own. Optima 100 cca + battery minder when not in use. that should have you pirouetting in no time
batteries are not that complicated IIRC it takes a 24 or 24F (they differ in + and - post position), which you should be able to find at any auto parts store. Bring your old battery along in case I am wrong. The more expensive batteries usually have more power and last longer. And bigger is better.. more electrolyte and plates means longer life and more power. I tend to stay away from the ones you can't add water to or check the electrolyte levels, but each to his own.
Cliff - Before considering an Optima, check out this old Dino battery thread - http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124009&highlight=optima - my experience with OPTIMA was not very good, and DM and Jim Glickenhaus both agree with me! Mark
Must admit the first Optima I installed went dead after a few months even though it was either in use or an battery tender. The replacement has been fine. In days when mine was a daily daily driver, there were never any battery issues, 70's 80s and 90s. Somewhere in there I had to replace one with whatever the garage had on hand. it was an Exide I think. lasted for 7 or 8 years. Maybe its the constant use that makes them last longer. Maybe they need the occasional deep discharge / charge cycle to keep them at their optimum. If the battery is on a battery tender and only gets used once in a while, maybe that is not so good.
Thank you for the replies, I have now installed a new battery, with success. Qf course we are a classy lot, who else would have an affair with a ballerina? Cliff Donnon Australia
