Had my Dino back from a local paintshop and whilst reasonable happy with the work they seem to have gone Pop rivet mad...even popped all the Inspection panels in the wheel arches etc.....not good , and now I have to try and slowly drill them out to get back to original ...if possible....

the problem is im not sure if some of the pop rivets now in place were actually originally that way or not ....so if somebody could tell me if they were originally riveted at :::

Engine cover heat vents ?? ( the metal plates inside)

    The quarter lights frames ??

The under floor panels ?? they also seem to have put a sticky gunge seal around all the edges...not sure about that as well ??

The Windscreen washer bottle...( riveted to the body shell at the top ??

    Boot light switch ??

    Appreciate any comments ....

    thanks

I wonder if somebody would kindly advise red my post. I just need to know where ( if any ) PPP rivets should be used .

One more thing. Can somebody identify the little self tap screws used everywhere

Are they PK. And what diameter are they .... And where can I buy them in UK.
I seem to. Recall they had a very flat head ... Pls rekindle my brain cells ..

    Hey.

I don't have a UK source for the screws, BUT there's a US company that puts a couple nice kits together for Dinos, and I'm guessing freight wouldn't be a killer, they're not exactly giant boxes of stuff.

CUSTOM ASSORTMENTS- FERRARI RESTORATION HARDWARE ASSORTMENTS

I bought two of their assortments when we were putting my Dino back together a few years ago.

As to the pop rivets, I don't think you want any of the removable panels pop riveted in place, kind of defeats the purpose. I don't recall there being ANY pop rivets, except to hold the access door to the brake reservoir in the front boot, and the VIN tag on the door.

But it has been almost 10 years since I did mine, so don't count on my memory being too solid on this.

The wheel arch liners (service shells) were held in by either M5 or M6 slot heads - I can't recall which off the top of my head. They are supposed to be easily removable for maintenance access so rivets defeat this totally. I used hex heads on mine as they are easier to remove with a socket set than fiddling around with a slot head screwdriver. They aren't highly visible and easily swapped for the correct fittings for say a concours event. The screws go into fixing brackets that are often missing on cars nowadays Ferrari 246 GT/GTS: Body & Fittings: Body Parts: Fixing bracket

A good source for screws I found in the UK is Stig's Stainless Fasteners

    Thanks. Really good info..
Can you recall if pops were used :
To hold the quarter lights on the door frame and
On the engine and front bonnet air scoop frames ... Not sure what they are called ... The frames inside the air vents that seem to be held on one side only

    ??

    Thanks

I think you mean the drip channels underneath the vents on the front bonnet and engine deck lid. If so they are held on by pop rivets on the side to the support frame. The foot at the front is glued into place. We used that double side badge tape on mine to give good adhesion on these points.

The attached pics show the engine cover on my Rosso Dino car and the location of the rivets on the drip channel/frame rail circle in red. The front bonnet drip channels are shown on my Verde Germoglio car.

Yes they are and when you remove them then you should be able to find your body numbers stamped inside as shown here:
