I have EMS Free Surfer and Microsoft Pop Up blockers. I have not had any problem with pop ups until early this morning. The only thing that has changed is I installed a bit torrent program to try and download a jeremy clarkson video. I have uninstalled the program but the pop ups continue.

Could pop ups be caused by something that got installed on my computer?

    Thanks for any help

yes. it all depends what you downloaded and from where you downloaded it. even some sites where you are hitting the torrents, you do not necessarily need to download or install anything at all. if you are using internet explorer, a simple drive-by (visiting the site) will load applications through holes (patched & unpatched) & low security settings.

I suggest getting spybot, adaware and hijackthis from here: http://www.spychecker.com/software/antispy.html download, install, update (except the latter) and scan away. regarding hijackthis, if you click on scan and save the log file, post it here or to me in a PM. some things might look fishy, but they are ok. and the opposite can be true too.

I ran hijackthis and I found 11 things in the log that had things like "rebates" and "net bargains" in them and deleted them all.

I have not had a problem since.

I had no idea what bit torrent was. The site I was on said I needed it to get that video. I left it running for about an hour and the video never downloaded so I just got rid of it all.

    Thanks for the info.

I ran spybot and it fixed 92 problems.

Now this error pops up when I start windows. (see pic)

Also a window for something called zeta.exe pops up saying it needs to close

I am going to run ad aware and hijack this again.

Thanks for any help any of you can give me

The program Wild Tangent has been uninstalled yet the error continues.

Run msconfig and look in the startup tab for the dll file (cdaEngine0400.dll I think it said). Disable it, and the nag window should stop. You might have to drag the column bar over way to the right to read the whole line, since it probably starts with rundll32.exe....

To remove it forever, run regedit and search for the .dll file name, and then remove it. Be very careful with regedi, especially if you don't know what you are doing.

For .dll files, I'd recommend that you first unload the service before you just delete the file. For exampe:

    regsvr32 -u c:\folder\folder\file.dll

I'd recommend that you run more than one spyware app, Spybot + something else. A 2nd opinion never hurts. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ is a great free online scanner. http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/ has a free one too.
