Is there a Porsche forum that has information like this F-chat does? I am looking for a Porsche for my father for his birthday because he always wanted one but I don't know anything about Porsches. My budget is about 60k. I am looking for used 911 GT2. Which one is faster GT2 or GT3? Which Porsche model is the one in the the first BAD BOY movie? Can anyone help, thanks in advance.
Both are good forums for information about the GT2. The car in the movie is actually a 911 turbo 3.6 without the RS America moniker. That was a seperate model based on the 964 carrera.
I know, I am finding that out very quickly as I am checking out the Porsche sites. So my search is on...
Calabasas, I am a Porsche Guy & I have a modded 1988 911 Turbo (930). Rennlist is probably your best bet for information....the site is a lot like this one in terms of the quality of members, and the overall knowledge of the marque. For 60k you *may* be able to find a car like the one in Bad Boys. That body style is the one that replaced the original turbo (like mine) and was made in 1991, 1992, & 1994 (There was no turbo in the US in 1993). The '91 & '92 model years had the 3.3 liter turbo charged engine while the 1994 got the 3.6 liter turbo engine. The 1994's usually trade around 20k more than their '91 & '92 stablemates with the only visual difference being the badging and wheels. Also, the '94 is unique because it shares the 3.6 configuration with later generations of Porsche Turbos but it is only rear-wheel drive, not AWD like the 993 & 996 Turbos. You can find a nice clean '91 or '92 for around 50k (again, these look just like the 1994 model used in Bad Boys). The '94 will definitely make you stretch your budget for a clean, well documented car but it is doable if you have a little patience. 996 GT3's are coming down a little in price. I have seen some priced in the 80-90k range, but those are cars with some track time and 20,000 miles or more. The nicer cars are still trading at 90k+. 996 GT2's are coming down a little in price as well. I have seen some trade for a little more than double your budget all the way up to around the price of a nice second hand Gallardo or F360. Good luck with your search. I HIGHLY recommend posting on Rennlist in the 965 Turbo ('91 - '94) Forum and let them know what you are looking for. They are great about answering questions and helping you locate a car... Good Luck, Cajun
Also check out your local PCA Members list, always good cars for sale. http://www.pca.org/regions/index.html and the Porsche Owners Club as well (click on "Community", then click on the drop down menu titled "Look for More..." and then on "Classifieds" http://www.porscheclub.com/
You should be able to find a higher mileage '96-'98 993 Turbo for around $60k after negotiating. Those cars are classics and pretty much won't depreciate anymore.
Ditto on the forums I think the car in Bad Boys was actually a 965 (or 964 Turbo). You found out you wouldn't get a GT2 or GT3 at 60k ... but a 996TT may not be out of the question (but high mileage would be a given). 993TT are just as expensive as the 996TT (rightfully so, if I may say). Perhaps a nice 993 C4S (or C2S if you can find one) would do. Or a regular 996.
my dad bought one this weekend. Even if you doubled your budget you'd come up short. I was completely shocked he actually got it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
it's just a ridiculous car. He had a 911T, and this car is 10x better. Plus, the wing looks awesome....something missing on all the other 911's.
Err. You can find low mileage, well-documented cars for ~110. If you look, you can find high mileage examples for under 100. --Dan
Who knows. My dad said he only found 3 of them for sale in the U.S. This one just happened to be in south FL. lol
I just get a bit bored with all the grey and black GT2's, I'd get something different.....like this orange one at a trackday last Friday (with ~600hp). I've been for a ride in scud's GT2 and its definately the most brutal acceleration I've felt in any car to date (thats comparing against an F50, F430, CS, Murcielago, Gallardo among others). Are we talking GT2's??? If so, PLEASE point me in that direction!!! I have yet to see a low mileage, well documented car for 110.
Beat the bushes, check dealers, service centers, dealer auctions, etc. I haven't looked recently at all, so they might be even cheaper. I figure it's under the buck by now. --Dan
