I really want one of these always have! So I have a few questions should I get a porsche approved 911 or just buy from a dealer/owner regardless?

I've found two great specimens both porsche approved:

1990 gp white manual with 90k on it for 22,000 its a coupe (964)
1991 guards red auto with 55k on it for 26,000 and its a cabrio (964)

I like the idea of lower mileage and newer age and an auto (and convertible) though I am worried about the top being noisy/leaky or needing to be replaced while owning. So any advice on all this? Also what kind of maintenance costs will I need to factor in for these?

You may want to go over to rennlist.com and post this question. They have a couple more Porsche experts there.

If your going to buy a 964 than you should find out all the quarks that model has, then learn what to look for, it could save you 10's of thousands of dollars, really.
Do your homework and always get a PPI from a reputable source.
I feel those two examples are over priced.

I actually am selling a 1990 Carrera 2 Cabriolet Tiptronic in Guards Red and black leather interior with only 2,600 miles on it if you're interested in paying a bit more for a concours type car. Definitely check out the 964 forum on rennlist.com-- by far the most frequented and comprehensive 964 forum out there. This is also a great site to learn about the ins and outs of 964 ownership:

    Alignment for CAD $1000?

Back in college ('94) my flatmate bought a used '91 manual 911C2 (964). Pretty good car, reliable, etc. Nothing ever happened over 18 months of ownership (He sold it when he went back home).

Tires are about $750......wheel alignment is $250 at the dealer who has the best machine and experience.
