Price aside, I think its the coolest thing they have done in years. Sounds great.
I was gonna say, I wonder if the ducktail and Fuch's are going to be available to order from Porsche? If so, a much cheaper proposition would be a $60k C4S + the aforementioned parts. Done and done.
Exactly. This would make sense at $75k. At $175k it's stupid. Seems like it could be done aftermarket for under $10k total, including the upholstery work.
Not a Porschephile by any stretch, but my kneejerk reaction to this car was -- LOVE it. Don't like racing stripes, works very well on this car though. All enhancements very tastefully done. I personally think it rivals the Turbo as the best-LOOKING iteration of the 997 in existence. It must be worth noting that the car is not for sale in the USA, and that cars are way more expensive in Europe. The Sport Classic is 1.75 times the cost of a base Carrera 2S in Europe, so if using the same math, it would be $150,000 here taking the base price of a Carrera 2S here at $86,000.
I liked the observation made by one writer 'that for the money charged for this model the stripes should have been painted on'. He went on to note that other manufacturers like Ferrari didn't use a decal for the stripes on the Stradale... CH
Exactly right. The new 911's must be right around the corner as Porsche is squeezing every last drop out of the 997 range. What's next, the 48th anniversary limited edition 911 with a retro Blaupunkt cassette player?
Porsche has got to do something. Their best selling car is a Panavision or whatever it is called. I'm not kidding. 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans have tanked. Dale
After you drive it for a while, pls give us a report. I'm thinking of getting one for the wife. I'd really like to know how the seats hold up on a long drive. Dale
"After you drive it for a while, pls give us a report. I'm thinking of getting one for the wife. I'd really like to know how the seats hold up on a long drive." Probably will take it to Road Atlanta this weekend, 8 hours each way. You thinking about ordering one of the new ones? FWIW, I like the Sport Classic's looks.
The bubble roof doesn't work, but I like the wheels and the duck tail. I was just thinking today about the retro Camaro, and Ford Gt, etc. The Porsche 911 has just slowly morphed itself into a defacto retro version as the years have gone by.
I dunno. I tend to be a bottom feeder. You know, buy at 3 and sell at 5, which is good news for me cause the GTS came out in 2008. This one would be used for my wife's super slab commute and long trips. Hence, the interest in seat comfort. (Of course, the fact it can pull a trailer, perhaps with a race car, has nuthin to do with it.) Just FYI, the best seat I have sat in so far has been the sport seat in the BMW X5 and 5 car series. It has something like 18 different adjustments, which because I like the sit up and beg position (kinda like a race car ), is a good idea. Again, give us a report when you get back. I'd love to hear how it feels compared to the Q-Port or 612. Be safe. Dale
that is one of the silliest offerings from porsche in a long time. basically a base carrera s with power pack at gt2 price levels. simply put...stupid. i really cannot envision who would buy this car. purely designed by the marketing dept. and this from a porschephile.....
Saw one last Saturday exactly one day after I observed a 458. Car is super gorgeous and that dark chocolate interior looks actually darker in real life. Although it is really too bad that there will only be one colour scheme on this model. Plus IMO, the inflated price is easily justified for a 911 this rare and special. Image Unavailable, Please Login
