the charging system in my 95 933 goes completely dead if not driven after couple of days and has to be jumped start. the battery is new.....is it fair to assume it's the alternator?

can someone tell me if this is some special porsch alternator? can this be rebuilt? thanks.

All of the European cars I have know, if not driven often, the battery will die. My father had a Porsche 964 and had the same problems as you. I don't know why this happens, but there are items out there that you connect to the top of your battery and it will detect when your battery is losing power and will cut it off to the point where you will have enough juice in your car to get it started up again. There are also battery maintainers that you put onto the battery and plug in the wall to keep it charger up. Eh, I would buy the automatic battery disconnect. It's cheaper than a new alternator (if that is the problem,) and you wont have to go through the hassle of opening your hood after everytime you take it for a spin. I think Gilroys garage or some company like that sells it for $70-$80. All you do is intall it and its a guaranteed start every time.

    BTW...993's are awesome.

Sounds like a bad ground to me.
