Two amazing, yet very different cars....the F40 is an icon, the 959, almost.

Manific! I wish I spoke French. The F40's engine displacement is 2.9L I believe the 959's the same. How much faster did the 959 get after the Canapa conversion of the car from it's factory sequential turbo set up? Does
    the F40's stats?

Should be 959 vs. 288 as they were both built for Group B.

But the F40 was Ferrari's direct response to the 959 to prove a point that you don't need all the gizmo's to make a truly great supercar and to ensure that they were the first to break 200mph.

Not to much of a difference. The 959 never really held a candle compared to the F40 performance wise.

IMO one of the most important facts about the F40. First production car to break 200 mph.

    Best test was 202.8 mph....

Also, a LM hit 229 mph....

Well I just bought an 959 to side up to my F40. I should have it with me in the next 2 weeks(currently being recommisioned by Porsche.... £25K !!! only 6k miles on it) I know the F40 will be more exciting in the end, but you just have to admire the technology and landmark applications on the 959 for the time. I should be able to give direct comparisons when the car arrives and do my own... mini test.
Meanwhile you can see my car, as it was filmed for a Car magazine video on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp-ws9fFHQc.
More pics of course when I get my car.

My Francais is very poor, anyone up for generating another version with subtitles, please? :D

BTW: I think the driver of the F40 would possibly be in danger of submarining under the harness in a crash given how he had those straps adjusted and the buckle fairly high up his chest. I hope others here don't wear them that way. Since the lap belt portion very tight to rest across your lap below your gut was how I was always taught. Then tension the shoulder straps.

I did not understand a word of it but I thoroughly enjoyed the video anyway! Epic pairing of cars driven in tandem! Wonderful sounds!

I took this picture in Monte Carlo a couple years back.

Can anyone tell me if this is a 959? Odd to see such a rare old car on the road.

I think in a way you're right it is slightly an oddball in looks. However what 959 undoubtedly evokes in most people is....respect(for its technological achievements and landmark presence of the time) and maybe that's why you end with..very cool nonetheless
