My friend got a new Z for $24K out the door. That's what he told me anyway. I didn't ask, I just asked what package he got and he spit out the price.
FWIW......an RMS replacement on a 996 or Boxster is about $900 CAD parts and labor.......some of you here wear wacthes that cost more......they use the revised Cayenne V8 seal....works like a charm.
Yes, I've heard that the RMS problem has finally been resolved with this new seal; shop around and you can get deals on a nice 996. I test drove a 996 and it is very refined-especially after just driving my 911SC....
If what you say is true that would change my whole outlook on my next Porsche. Im going to look into this, Thanks.
Well......my shop does them on a regular basis it seems.......and I pay the bills on my used car inventory....so you can rest assured....it is for real. Back when the cars were new they were doing engine swaps......but we are almost a decade down that road now......RMS is old news.....no worries bud !!
That is great news, I would like to have a 996 with the GT3 wing, turbo front end, and BBS style wheels.
Bought an 2005 Enthusiast Z New last August, 32k miles later no problems, only complaint is probably how thin the paint is compared to a Porsche. Typical Japanese car I guess...
The Z is a great car to own and drive. The brakes are weak but the car is a blast to drive because it's very sold. Maintenance is inexpensive and parts, in case something goes very wrong, aren't cheap but aren't close to expensive. You can get one with a 60kmi warranty (mine has one) with a 36k powertrain warranty. I really love driving this car, but I've never driven a 993, so I can't tell you how that would be. I can tell you that you will get a much more solid car with fewer miles for less than a higher mileage 993. The engine is very strong, there's torque EVERYWHERE you want it. If you have one with a REVUP (300hp engine) your effective powerband is between 2800-6600rpm, which is an absolute blast. I have the non-REVUP engine (287hp) and my powerband is 2800-6200rpm. It feels great to be able to hit the gas in 4th gear and get moving very quickly.
I think the question involves the perspective of the buyer. To me, the Porsche is old school, and classic. The Z might be a better performer in some respects, and offers the things a new car brings, including a warranty, but it doesn't have the same sort of appeal. But, I'm biased. I took delivery of this 993 C4 Cab about an hour ago. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, all. Car is getting sorted now- new wheels, rubber, a few odds and ends. Inside, it is like an old fashioned European car, instrumentation, shapes, surfaces and aesthetic, not a post-modern plastic clone. I have such good memories of the old Euro cars from the 60's, I can't wait to enjoy driving this.
I learned to drive stick on a 993 C4 cab. Black/Black 993 C4 cabs will always have a special place in my heart, and definitely in my garage.
You can easily pick up an 04-05 350z for less than 24K with less than 30K miles. The depreciation of the 350Z really sucks, and are almost impossible to sell if you have any sort of FI in it. Right now there is a 600+HP 350z for sale with a fully built and forged engine, upgraded LSD and rear axles with only 2K on the new engine for 34,000. I wish I had done a little more research when I bought my TT Z and I could of had a much better car like that one. At the same time its still a Nissan and a 993 a Porsche. http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=198509
Welcome to 993 world! You should check the 993 board over on Rennlist, great guys and lots of good info. I organized a Rennlist run in the Tri-state area and had a great turnout. Should join us next time! Since we're showing our beauties...here's mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A 993 is an alltime classic , hand made, and is an x-treme well done piece of machinary- just 30 years of even evolution .... compare a Z to a 993 is like compare a camaro to a Vanquish. the 993 C2s is just beautifull. is like a 250GTO to me . a 350Z is a great car, but you are cant compare apples to oranges. a good shape 993 with less than 25000 miles is well over $40K right now. try that after 10 years with a nissan.
This question is so absurd it's insulting to one of the greatest marques the racing world has ever seen. It is ridiculous to even raise such an insane question. Can you possibly be serious? For the money you would spend on a 993, there is nothing on the planet that can compare. Unless, you have driven a 993 for any amount of time, you don't know what you are missing. Faster cars, yes, better handling, yes... More fun to drive, and a feeling of satisfaction behind the wheel? There is no substitute.
