The GT-2's have the x-drilled rotors w/Bremba. You tank the whole ticket it's not cheap but not 5K. I love the turbos in Porsche...I'm still stuck on the 3.3L and 3.6L packages. The vintage Turbo 993 and earlier 930's are a blast to drive. The GT2's are very fast, just they are a tad homoginized. If your going to run daily I don't think you can go wrong with either the TT or GT2

What are you talking about? x-drilled brembas(sic)?

The GT2 (and other porsches) are often fitted with PCCB brakes, which are Porsche's ceramic discs. Some people have found that they don't last very well on track and they're much more expensive to replace if they go bang. You can tell they're PCCB by the yellow caliper.

And the OP could do a lot worse than going to Rennlist to ask these questions.

Thanks Topgun and JonboyG, but i've already decided on the GT2. Most likely its going to hit the track on weekends then for the week its going to be the daily driver. If everything works out we'll see how it goes, thanks again for the feedback.

I'm told by a freind to get the standard cast iron discs as the ceramics wear out very quickly on the track and Porsche is not stepping up to the plate on replacements any more,

996tt is a great all around car. Mine has 600hp it's my daily driver.

I owned a 996TT and they are a great daily driver, although short on storage space for carrying things. I wouldn't be worried about service. The cars are bullet proof. And if it isn't fast enough for you, cheaply modable to even more power. The AWD / PSM combo is there as a good safety net.

I have never driven a GT2, but I am not sure they make sense daily-driver wise, from everything I have heard. Too low, too rough, and you just hear all kinds of stories of nasty wrecks (since they are RWD with NO PSM). Crazy fast for sure, though.

I am not sure you will find a more competent super car as a daily driver than a 996TT, though, if you don't mind the lack of cargo capacity.

LightGuy, thanks for the 4-1-1, very useful insight.

bhill121, beautiful car! Congrats and enjoy her to the fullest. Got any more pics?

DropGems, WOAH! Seems like you won't be late for your next appointment.

Adrift, I understand the concept of people wrecking their own GT2's because the lack of PSM and with all that power, but I also understand that each car has its limit no matter how great and never forget that when unleashing the lion I have to be prepared for whatever happens afterwards.

Thanks again for the replys, I learned much more than I originally had expected and hope this thread will serve as a means to answer a few questions for someone else in the future.

Well mine's an x-50 so I started with 450hp then I chipped it, added an exhaust and had the wastegates calibrated. The car is really smooth and comfortable for daily driving but it's rocket when you get on it.

    bhill, awesome pics!

I agree that taking responsibility for using all that (GT2) power is yours, but my daily driver is pretty low now, and it is no fun ALWAYS being worried about every speed bump, every drive way, every change in grade, every man-hole cover that sticks up. And I think the GT2 is even lower than my car.

Do you want to always be cognizant of every change in grade in the road? And are you prepared to pay to replace the bodywork that does get beat up when you misjudge (or don't have a choice)?

A daily driver sees lots of varied scenarios. A GT2 is an extremely potent driving implement, but I would think twice about whether it can suitably handle all the situations daily driving might throw at it.

On the down side with the TTs though...the stock ride is silly soft/bouncy (fixable) and the clutch is way over-boosted so that there is NO take-up feel (not fixable), leading to over-revving/clutch-riding at launch; quite annoying.

Very stong argument Adrift, really shines the light on minor problems that I didn't pay much attention too. To sum it all up in one answer, Yes I am ready. If it has to get repaired, or if I have to be more judgemental about what roads to take and which ones to avoid, I realize that these are all unavoidable consequences that comes with owning such a car. But still, it's not enough of a reason to turn down such a fine automobile. In life, theres some sacrifices that have to be made for things to work out how you wish it too, and those are no different.
As for the varied scenarios, we'll just have to see if the Porsche won't break under the pressure, and if it does, life goes on.

DropGems: Spectacular looking machine, congrats and enjoy every ride like its the last.
