They may have an impact, but I highly doubt it'll be something noticeable or anything that might hurt the company.

And how exactly do you figure that when the Gallardo is actually turning a profit? Porsche would be stupid to kill what can make it even more money.

    oh god.. please no!
We all know that Porsche are the laziest designers alive. I hope this doesn't affect Lamborghini. I don't want to see rear-engine lamborghinis.
Let's not forget what can happen to Bugatti now, I hope they won't pull the plug on it since it doesn't bring much profit to VW.

I think it is great. I do not think Porsche would get rid of Lambo (or Bugatti etc). They did it for a reason, to make money. And now at least when some smartass says about a lambo its a VW, you can say, no its not, its a porsche :p lol (just joking :) ).

You guys who think this is a bad thing need to do a little research. Porsche is making the most technologically advanced and RELIABLE sportscars on the planet BAR NONE. Porsche is a supercar that you can drive everyday rain, snow, shine, anytime...

I have a Boxster that I purchased new in 1999 and it has 180,000 TROUBLE FREE miles on it. Find me a Lamborghini that can make that claim... If they bring the same reliability and rock solid performance to Lambo, then I don't see how that could be anything but a good thing.

Who cares. A Porsche is A Porsche, not even in the same leauge as a Lambo The German touch has already dulled the edge. ie Gallardo, A mixed breed. Seems that all the "new buyers" care about is reliability and comfort, at the expense of Lamborghini's exotic nature. Like so many other automobile models and makes, names are just a selling tool and in reality mean nothing because of parts sharing, cross platforming etc.

People said the same thing when Fiat acquired Ferrari; IMHO Lambos today are styled by non-Italian designers giving their interpretation of what an Italian sportscar should look like.

If Porsche is really smart, they'll harmonize industrial design of mundane stuff (i.e. wiper moters, springs, latches, seat frames) across the product brands/lines and let each brand innovate and then contribute back into their cross-brand design library. For them, they'll increase quality, spread innovation and make more money, for us we'll get a better product at a better price.

HP did that recently and it worked out great for them.

Guess on the next gen G if Porsche has any say so we will be paying 2K for painted wheel crest or stainless E-brake handles and such.

I remeber reading this last year....

    http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/12/does-vw-want-to-unload-lamborghini-and-bugatti/

Is Volkswagen about to shed some supercars from its stable? It could be the case, if statements by Porsche boss/VW supervisory board member, Wendelin Wiedeking, are taken seriously. When asked about the future Bugatti and Lamborghini within the Volkswagen Group, Wiedeking is quoted as saying "no toys anymore." Cash from the sale of these two exotic makers could help VW work on restructuring its core Volkswagen brand, which would allow VW to reclaim its position as a true global player.

But it's not all about the Euros. Not surprisingly, it is reported that Wiedeking isn't too happy Porsche might occupy anything less than the top rung in the corporate hierarchy. Imagine Audi R8, Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Gallardo all in the same family – that might be a little awkward. And with a new Porsche supercar reportedly in the works designed to break the top speed record set by the Bugatti Veyron, it can only get worse. Throw in a Murcielago LP640 successor, and we think the sibling rivalry would turn to bloodshed.

Autocar is speculating that Lamborghini could be sold off, but that Bugatti might turn into little more than a coachbuilder. If the Veyron ends up making Bugatti a one-and-done automaker this go-around, we say job well done but hope there's more to come.

Though Wiedeking is a member of VW's supervisory board and his company does now own 31% of the VW Group, the question remains how much influence Porsche really has over the future of VW. German law in this regard is complicated, and as far as we can tell, beyond a voice on the board, Porsche can't do much at the moment to force the sale of Lamborghini and Bugatti, whether it wants to or not.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

Porsche is a great reliable car...yes. supercar? ....no way. They are a dime a dozen and are a hollow expression of what the company under Ferry Porsche used to be. While Weiking (sorry on spelling ) is great corporate businessman, he "lacks" on building a car that excites.

I belonged to the P club of America for the last 19 years ( haven't driven one for 10 yrs ) and finally quit because the members weren't car guys/gals anymore....more of the Lexus crowd now.

    Sorry....

That's odd, Bluetooth connectivity on the Gallardo is about $1000, and upgraded wheels cost up to $6500.

The price on options for these types of these cars is ridiculous.

Shamile, you are such a gear head. I love it. Unfortunately allot of Gallardo owners are part of that Lexus crowd too.
