How is this car selling around the US and worldwide? I do not see very many of them here in Louisville. Plenty of new 911's and Boxster's, but very few Cayman's. Now that I think about it I have probably seen more CGT's on the road than Cayman's. Matt
I live in D.C. area so I have seen a dozen of them.. they will first sell to the yuppies wanting the "new" thing, then sell only to enthusiasts willing to pay MORE(!!) for a hard top boxter. It is a great car and I'm sure will do what porsche expects for sales.
They are all over here. The only way I'd ever buy one is if I had a family, and it would be a turbo or turbo s. I also think the VW Toureg looks much better than the Cayenne.
In San Francisco, I see more 997s than the Cayman. The 997 has been out longer than the Cayman though. In time Im sure it will be a popular model, its a nice looking car. I see more Cayennes than 911s.
$71K sticker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006-Porsche-Cayman-S-with-PASM_W0QQitemZ220004560482QQihZ012QQcategoryZ133217QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The Cayman is the first Porsche I actually like from a styling point of view....hope it does ok sales wise....
For 71 grand the cars way over priced..IMO Nice car but not at that price.... Lots of other cars I'd chose over it.. If money's no object? Then its a good car.. I'd say the cars selling well. I see a lot of them around . ...
I agree, it's at least $10k too high IMO. At $70k there are just too many preowned choices (and new Z06's).
I'm currently pricing one for ****s and giggles as I came across this thread. I'm sorry, but Porsche just offers too many options for this type of car. The msrp is $58,900, and with all the options, I'm now up to over $90k and I'm not even done! WTF!
A friend of mine got one for ~70k out the door. You can debate the the value of the car but find me a NEW mid engined sports car for less and I'll buy it. The MR2's are all gone and there really is something special about the mid engine configuration.
Here in Calgary, I see 'em all the time. They're doing quite well. One of my dad's clients purchased one for his wife for about $100K CAD. So... about $90K USD.
Stay tuned, folks. I am betting Porsche takes the gloves off and offers a Cayman RS in the next 5 years. Then things will get very interesting. Panorama (Porsche Club news mag) is already talking about the possiblity of a Cayman-style racer taking over Porsche's GT racing duties. The only thing currently keeping the Cayman from running away from big brother is Porsche marketing. The only thing exclusivity gets you is valet cred. You want track cred, a Cayman / Porsche will get you that in spades. Here's my little bit of rabble rousing...you want to LOOK like you race, drive something "exclusive". You want to actually race, drive a Porsche.
Road and Track states 10,000 cars sold in USA which is above Porsches expectations. Also a stripped down version is to become available soon. I fully expect a Ruf twin turbo version to mop the floor with all other street cars.
Only seen one in boise but I don't think there are many for sale/ The one I saw was black (50-60 yr old driving it) caught a ride-and its fantastic!
