I met him in Noosa at the beginning of 2020, nice guy too. I approached him in a cafe and he didn’t tell me to **** off At the time he told me to keep an eye out for a young Aussie by the name of Oscar Piastri I’m really looking forward to watch him race this year. Hope he gives Lando a run for his money..
He didn’t mention he was his manager at the time, but as I followed him through F3 and F2, I soon found out. He said he has a place there, so I guess you could call him a local
That's my experience too. A million years ago, Mark was my Formula Ford driving instructor, a great bloke and many of his words have stayed with me, e.g. "drive it like there's a big gorilla sitting behind you waiting to throw you off". I met him again when he was with Williams and he was unchanged, no airs and graces, just a lovely bloke who took the time to talk to a nobody like me. By contrast, at Goodwood FoS in the early days, if you walked up to most current F1 drivers and said G'day, they would blank you and walk off.
People tend to forget that Mark Webber was a pretty good driver. His failure was that his driving style didn't lend itself to the technique required of a blown diffuser. Vettel exploited this technology on the Red Bull to outstanding effect. When blown diffusers were banned in 2012 and teams had to rely on the coanda effect exhausts for aero grip at the rear, Mark Webber had 2 victories to Vettel's single victory in the first half of the season. Only when Reb Bull finally got their coanda exhaust and clever aero bridge solution at the rear sorted did Seb assert dominance over Webber (just before mid season). Until then, Webber had the upper hand over Vettel.
That is great to hear man, Webber definitely seems like a good ****. And looking forward to watching Oscar boy race also. Hope he has some success.
Great stuff! From the videos you see of him, even if it's half scripted for the camera, he seems like a genuinely good bloke and it would be great to be able to spend a day with him hanging out.
