Modern "Sports" cars weigh far too much.... The new M2 weighs more than 1,700kg.. Just crazy.

Yes I noticed that. I have the new M2 at 1,733kg. Which happens to be 3kg heavier than this: 1978 450 SE, all steel, with a cast iron block bent 8 up front!

Completely different market. No owner of a 930 would seriously be thinking, maybe I'll buy a new one. That's why you'd buy a new one, and I'd have the 930. There are some well maintained 930s out there however they are very difficult to find.

Stop arguing and bickering and buy a proper car with a spare tyre.

OK, let me explain it another way. You would be very foolish to take a car some 4,500kms or more in 7 days on the roads applicable to the GG or GAD without a spare. The issues being not simply tyres, but wheels as well. The misfortunes to both are documented extensively over the many years the event has run.

GAD are fine ,I've driven those roads for 20 plus years be it in the E-type ,RS,964,DB6 and Alfas .

Do Motorbikes have a spare wheel and tyre ?

it is what it is and 1,000s of people worldwide take the punt . Stop being a sook.

That combination of weight and engine would be awesome in a body that didn’t look schitt.

    Just found this thread.
I am 3rd owner of both my 930's, must be a sucker. New Porsche 911 cars or ones still with warranty are not for me, too big and heavy.
996.1 gt3 is my limit (5th local owner), narrower than my 930's with enough power for the road and some track.

I assume you mean that this early 911 doesn't look schitt, if so I wholeheartedly agree.

The original design was simple, pretty and elegant. It's progressively deteriorated over the years, current cars are just too big and too heavy, almost a parody of a "sports" car.

btw the Singer engine is a clean sheet design by Williams F1. It sounds wonderful but at 11K rpm you would only have about 500 hours of engine life.

Having owned many Porkers old and new -driven both old and new models ....I LIKE 'EM In fact the 1st one I drove for a good period was a 930 3.0l the 1st to come to Australia.

The older ones I owned were FAB cars, The 3.0Carrera turned into an SC car with 1,025ks and 260bph the '74 rep of a '71 RS 1,025ks 280bhp and without question, the finest air-cooled car they made for production the 993RS-which was another level above what Ferrari offered as there = in the period .Race production car 355/360.

Yes, modern cars are larger and heavier but with the choice of models Porsche offers in the 911 range -there is a car for all.

The finish of the current range is = is most other car builders as for being heavy, such nice units to drive the way they hold the road -my next car once I finish with the current 911 will be a new 911.

Like Ferrari owners many Porker owners own both old and new or have had both .

BTW The Singer engine at 500 hours will be around 40k to 50k in KMS not bad or about the same as a Ferrari period engine? (V8)

And even then it will be only valve springs that have gone soft ?

I've done very few kms in the Porker since purchase, that will change with Tassie.

I was thinking should I have gone the extra $$$$$$$s and bought a 997.2 GT3? For the driving I do and the roads and kms on those said runs NO.
