The device you sent that message on is more Chinese than my Emira. But both are less Chinese than Rob’s house will be when he sells it in a few years. Would the Chinese buyers of his sisters house keep the tower?
I get it 100%. The more I drive this car the more I love it. Can’t see myself selling it for a very long time, unless they come out with a convertible (which they won’t) or a really special final edition (which I will definitely buy).
At the track I found them "reasonably" good for the performance I was getting but would only get about 450 kms from 70 ish litres on a long run, but I didn't buy it for an economy run
Steve, how many months did it take you to solve the gear change problem? I recall you were off the road for months. It took me 4 months and 3 mechanics to solve my 575 deciding to go into neutral on its own. Ferrari apologists will say it wasn't the car's fault, but the truth is that the components and software are not durable. I would happily own a 3 pedal post-1990 Ferrari, but I have no interest in flappy paddle cars.
They're not toyotas, and I can't talk for everybody, but mine's been pretty solid. Small niggly things for sure and it doesn't help if you have car OCD - but what I will say is that it's been far more reliable than my wife's 2019 Tiguan.
I was off the road for almost a year, but for 99% of that time it was because the mechanics I took it to didn’t really know what was wrong and we spent all that time (and money) throwing things at the problem that were not much more than educated guesses. As soon as I found a genuine 355F1 expert the problem was solved in less than a day. The point being that if I’d found that guy first the whole thing would have been a non-event. So while I agree with you re the relative complexity of that system, I don’t agree that it’s an unreliable or particularly fragile part of the car. More than anything else, you must find someone who knows these cars inside out.
Hang on, that wasn’t the car’s fault. As I recall the previous owner let his ham fisted mechanic work on it whom stuffed the wiring to the F1 unit, no? And then you eventually took it to the dealer whom sorted it in a couple of hours ( Are you listening Adrian? ) 575s are robust and well built cars. Mine has 75k km on it, still original clutch and never had an issue with the F1 And yes, I get it, you want a Mondial
Parts of them are real piecemeal from different manufacturers (especially the 2.7 cars), and the electrical system is a study in duplicity. Some circuits perform two functions depending on which way the electrons are flowing... I had an issue with mine that the former owner (family member) tried to get sorted for over 10 years. Similar to Steve, all sorts of expensive things were swapped out... In the end I had access to something the previous owner didn't, Fchat... A fellow forum member helped me diagnose it and we literally had it fixed within a couple of hours... The issue? A 10c blown diode and a relay that was passing volts - but not current.
This thread is losing its Porker content since you know who got banned. What happened, did a snowflake melt? We'll need to wait patiently for those Bentley pics.
My point is that the design is poor and the components of only average quality. e.g. Porsche would have designed the wiring harness so it could only be installed the correct way. The plug ends are the same crap you'll find in a Renault. Also e.g. the xenon headlights in a 575 are french manufacture, as used in Peugeots. I had a persistent fault with one of mine, despite replacing everything. A 2003 Porsche 996 GT3 RS was $150K less than a 575 and is today $100K more. Says it all.
I can’t wait to see how “reliable” mine is when she gets back, Shirley nothing else for a while [emoji849]It is /was unbelievably reliable for 5 years before this F1 business but it’s all experience and knowledge and time and lots of money, I love my car, I love my car [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] saw this in the chippy Greg, cracking read [emoji4] Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I’m glad I did a few drives with you driving your 575, if you never had another Ferrari ever again at least I was there for a brief moment when you did and you looked pretty happy [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
