I know some folks that have done it and they all LOVED IT!!! There are some GREAT articles in Panorama (the PCA magazine) that folks have written about their adventure doing the same! I didn't do exactly that but I did buy a 1992 928 GTS (Euro spec, no '92 GTS's were ever imported to the US other than MINE) in 2000 and then went over and drove it around some (not nearly enough though) and then shipped it back... Of course mine had to go through an RI for EPA and DOT certification, your car won't and you will get it much more quickly than I got mine.

It won't save you any money doing it this way but you will have some GREAT memories for a lifetime! Go for it!!!

Its a great experience, and fall is the best time of the year to do it. My wife and I did the European delivery for our 2002 Turbo and went on the factory tour, which was cool. The foliage was beautiful and made the trip very scenic, and stretching out the car over there is a treat. Certainly worth the time, try to work in a soccer game, beer tour, or auto races while your over there for the full Germany experience.
