About 3 months ago a Porsche dealership was offering me with a brand new basic 996TT cabriolet for $125,000 because the original buyer did not buy it at the last minute.

Now for $120,000 I would buy a 360 and if I wanted a sunburn in my head I would do it in my pool with some broad.

Buy a 550 Maranello Bart? How about I just run down to Ferrari and buy a few new cars? Scroll your way back to the beginning - there is a budget here.

    No 550 Maranello.

There are early 550 Maranellos for $120,000 and lower, what is totally out of the question for $120,000 if you look way down is the limited run 550 Barchetta and this one will probably never hit as low as $120,000.

Get a V-12 and understand performance.

If you are not able to go over $100,000 than get a high mileage 550 like mine. (48,000 miles but I still have 152,000 left)

    P.S.

I am not interested in giving my sweet thing to anyone unless the price is in 7 figures.

I'd really encourage you to go for it!

You can definitely get parts for one and keep it running. I think it would actually be cheaper than a modern Ferrari, in addition to the fact that it wouldn't depriciate. (My Ferrari is a 1967!)

Ferrari dealers do not have the best service, and it is expensive. There is a sense that some repairs are being done by them for the first time. And it will break. You have to have thick skin.

Think about how you will transport it if there is no repair shop near you. Having said that, I have a neighbor using his 360 as a daily driver that just sold it with 70k miles. But it has been in the ship..I assure you. Having to do tie rod ends as a typical repair is not normal to me.

Also...with the top down you will get looked at/spoken to at most stoplights. I prefer to relax when I drive. I don't wanna turn down "The Doors" in the middle of a groove because a boom boom car kid wants to drag or ask how much the Ferrari costs.

I think you should maybe do it at sometime in your life. Why not? Need to count on it? I woudn't unless you have back up cars, $$$ to sink, and REALLY want it.

i spent 25 years driving Porsche after Porsche, with only one 360 spider to break it up.... and came to try F after i got tired and bored with Porsche quitting racing and building trux.... F is a racing brand, and you can feel it in the cars. W Hart has gone the reverse, but knows more about F than i ever knew about P. change is good.

these guys here are sooooo knowledgable and so helpful and now go do your research, read, spend days doing searches on this site and strike up PM conversations with those in the know and, as AMir and Jack said when i bought my CS: "you won't regret it".

most of my track friends are still P as you can see!!!

You should also take a look at the Maserati Coupe and Spyder (convertible!!), especially if you are considering driving 10K miles a year. The car is faster than a normally aspirated 911, and around $100K brand new with a 4 year/50K miles warranty.

Maseratis are fantastic cars, and Ferraris are even more fantastic, but cost about 2x the price for a new one.

I picked my Maserati over the 911 Turbo. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13429

BTW, I also considered a Ferrari 355 and a 456, but the Maseratis equal-to-superior performance plus warranty won out for me.

You owe it to yourself to test drive a Maserati.

    Best

After careful consideration, I've decided to buy a Volvo Wagon. Just kidding. You have all given me lots to think about, and I thank you. I am going to spend some time digesting all the information and options, and check out the marketplace for some of the discussed vehicles (especially the 512BBi). I'll let you know what happens.
