You have to understand that Porsche are not looking to be charismatic or even exotic... Porsche has become more of a business, and when you see lots on the road, that tells you that they're a very good business. Porsche do almost better than BMW, and they only have 3 different models... you mention exclusivity... You can be much more exclusive in a Porsche than in a Ferrari. When you buy a 360, the only options you get are minor interior adjsutments and challenge grill along with tires. Porsche have so many options, they can make a 70,000 Carrera, 95,000 just because of options. And that is Porsche's business, to make the profit. Ferrari do not need the profit, they are not even self owned... So, I do not see your confusion with my previous post. You cannot compare these two cars at all.... You cannot even say "porsche lacks charisma", because frankly, Porsche doesn't need the charisma Ferrari actually needs. For what it is worth Lambo has even more charisma than Ferrari... yet Ferraris tend to be more expensive. It all comes down to this: If you're not paying for build quality, you're paying for glamour, flamboyence, style and charisma... and those are apparently very expensive features for a car.
Hi Carlo welcome to Fchat. Remember these two threads porsche/lambo is better than Ferrari were started as a bit of a joke. So don't worry if Ton teases you I see you use to own a Bugatti EB110. Now that is an impressive car. Do you have any pictures? Cheers Simon
Ah, i see... yes, I had a super sport back in '99 but decided to get rid of it, and replaced it with the diablo. I do only have a few photos, i will post them in abit.
I the attachment options had told me to resize them...forgive me if they appear fuzzed. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Carlo, welcome at Fchat. Always nice to see people with "owning" experiences. I see in your profile you changed the Diablo for a Testarossa. What's the story behind?
Well, i was trying to change my email in the profile, and it was going to send me a new activation code at that new email. The problem was, i wasn't able to connect to the other email account, so i had to re-register here since it wouldn't let me post...(hence the new name.) The Diablo and testarossa never changed...they are both still listed there... Testarossa is listed with the 328 in "personal ferraris" and diablo is listed with the 993 in "other owned cars"
Wow a Super Sport not just an EB110. Amazing car. How did you find the ownership/driving experience? These days I think very few of these cars are driven hard. Many EB110's have become museum pieces because of the mechanical fragility and the difficultly to source parts. The car looks amazing. Cheers Simon
The pictures I promised Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
@Simon, thanks for the wonderful P car pics Right car for the mountains! Thats fun to drive those curves with a SWB Porsche. @Carlo, welcome on board, great to see a SuperSportsCarDriver here. You swapped the EB110 for a Diablo?! Well done! Which one??????????? I don`t think you just swapped it for a `91-`92 Diablo? SV, SV R, GT, GT R, 6.0 ???????
The 1997 Diablo roadster. I mainly sold the car because it was a process just to maintain. Thank you for the welcome. _________________________ Wow a Super Sport not just an EB110. Amazing car. Cheers Simon --- The ownership felt as if I had a celebrity staying over at the house, it never became old news. The driving experience I must say was one of a kind and this car is a true masterpiece. I remember just driving on the scenic routes, on the italian riviera, and the car would handle like a LM car, although I do remember that heavy clutch and driving the car was something one had to get used to. Once you turn that ignition, it does more than what a Ferrari would, as far as feeling . You've got four turbos and a v12....It was almost hard to drive modestly. But it was quite the car, I bought it from this millionare residing in Monaco, who made his fortune in the hospitality field. Anyhow, the car just became too much. Every drive was an extraordinary experience too good to happen no more than once or twice a month. The car would intimidate and was simply too fast! With that, as you said, maintaining is virtually impossible and very costly, and being driven as rarely as it was, I didn't find it fair for the car. And it probably wont be driven much more than the miles I had given it....
Are you talking about the real P 911? Air cooled `70th-80th? Yeah, way to go! Forgett about the rest or go straight ahead to a GT2, GT3, GT3 RS or CGT!
yea, the 997 is quite stunning... So stunning my wife is swapping her SL for a carrera S cabriolet which says alot considering she doesn't have much of an eye for cars. Honestly the 996 should have never been made - the 997 should have been next, after the 993. I've been looking for a 993 Turbo or Turbo S, but they seem to be becoming rare.
I have also been looking for a 993 turbo but the good ones are rare indeed. We just sold the 996 Carrera cabrio. It was a great car but not what we have been looking for. What car shall I buy (for my wife) now? It must be a 2+2 and she definitely wants a convertible. Any idea's?
A good 2+2 for the wife... an SMG M3 cabriolet. You should be able to get a decent deal because it is the last production of the e46 M3 (or any other e46.) Was that 996 cabriolet hers or for the both of you? You should test drive the 997S - im sure she would like it if she enjoyed the 996. Another good option is a CLK55 AMG. A nice car for a women exposed to Porsches or Ferraris. Its a soft sleek car, with grunt in that 5.5 V8, so it could suit her. I think the DB9 cabriolet is suppost to be a 4 seater (with very small back seats) but all the same, a 4 seater.. but those may be too expensive for her taste. I would look into the M3 cab and CLK55 cab...
We already looked at the M3 convertible but she doesn't like the image that goes with the car. It gives her the feeling of guys with golden chains, shiny alloys and loud music. We are still looking. The 996 was her car. She liked it but she didn't love it.
