I just received my Macan, one of the first to hit the US shores.

Overall it is pretty damn "blah", will probably get rid of it, I wish I still had my Touareg.

There are more buttons in this car than anything I have ever seen in my life.

It has a cool exhaust note on startup, but otherwise performance is very uninspiring.

    The regular S

Are you saying you think i bought the car to be a soccer mom? Be direct. Even if I were a Soccer mom (not a mom and don't play soccer) I would still be unimpressed. What is your point?

I don't follow, I've seen them all over the place for months now. Hell, our neighbor has a black one.

Touareg is one of the lamest suv/crossovers out there, if the macan is worse, porsche is going to have some problems.

My point was that it's a small SUV. Maybe your expectations were too high?

I like the looks of the Macan a lot. But in terms of it being "blah" to drive... that's not surprising to me. Small SUV buyers are usually looking for "blah".

Maybe you are right, I have always wanted to love the brand and this was my first Porsche. I wanted something different, unique, with some performance to boot. Just dissapointing that's all. Where I live the 911 is the soccer mom car. Live and learn, first world problems for sure....,

I have had my Macan S since June. second one delivered here. I think its unbelievable. sold a Turbo 997.1 a few months ago and this car is almost as much fun to drive, yet quieter, and more useful. Granted, I think I sold the Turbo for only 10K more than I paid for the macan, but its way better than my 08 touareg, and I have no regrets. drives way more like a 911 than a big SUV, lower center of gravity, more cozy interior. plenty of room . it is absolutely not "blah" and if you have to drive an SUV as a DD, theres little out there better than this fine car. excellent build quality, paint, etc.

I am curious as to what you find unbelievable about the macan? I wish I loved it, trying to love it, but it just does nothing to stir the soul. The 08 Tourareg was a truck, the 2011 is a different story. I suspect I just don't get the marque. Zero passion and if I want zero passion I'll stick with the VW

What are you not following? That's it's the first one I have seen in my area, the first shipment over, my opinion of the Tourareg, or my opinion of the macan?

You must not get out much. The local dealers have been delivering them for months. In fact my friend walked in and bought an S off the lot 2 months ago.

If you're trying to judge Porsche as a marque based on a Macan I think you should reconsider.

Agreed, lost the plot just a little.

Having said that, by far the Cayeene and the Macan are the most sports car like, fun to drive SUV's in the market. Incredible how quick they are, how flat they corner and just the overall feel compared to any other suv. But they are still NOT sports cars and if you're expecting a full blown sports car experience, that's not going to happen.

I own neither, own a range rover, but I have no problem admitting their superiority in the fun factor department compared to any other suv/cross over in the market.

One of the bigger investors in one of my companies bought one about a month ago. He's not a car guy so while guys like me have 9 cars, he has one and so it's his only car. He has a winter place in Scottsdale so he wanted something comfortable and competent for the CO/AZ drives. He's quite proud of it, which is great to see. It's not my kind of thing but it's nice to see that they make something that non-car guys can get excited about.

    Drove an optioned S today.
Going in I wanted to hate it. Drove it for curiosity.
IMO SUV's should be enclosed pickups able to tow 10,000 lbs. not a fashion statement. I do not like the Cayenne.

Have to say this vehicle really impressed for what it is especially in the twisties .
    This is a street vehicle.
If you expect the handling and 0 to 60 of a race car buy one and skip the 911 as well.

For the price not too bad.

Drove a Turbo a couple of weeks ago - and, if you need a sporty daily driver that fits 4-5 comfortably + prefer an SUV, there's really nothing better. By far the best handling SUV that I've ever driven.

Fighting the urge to buy one (as I drive so infrequently. Would be a waste.)

I compared the S to the Turbo specs. Mechanically there are pretty much the same; Body, transmission, drivetrain, even the brakes.
The S's 3.0 motor has a 9.8 vs 10.5 compression ratio of the Turbo. I'm thinking if the block, heads, turbos and intercoolers are the same just a reflash to the S could give similar if not equivalent power to the stock Turbo.

Before the test drive of the S the salesman told me it drove like a 911; Yeah.. right...
But I have to admit it was pretty damn tight and quick.

The S was plenty fast for a SUV a Turbo must be nuts. :D

I just ordered a Macan S for my wife. We won't get it until March/ April next year. There are 10 other people ahead of me at the dealer.

Those of you dismissing the car have not driven one. It's an amazing daily driver that is shockingly quick for an SUV. I think it's hard to beat.

I live the look of sports wagons better. Was going to get a 3 series bmw wagon awd.

    How would you compare?

Prefer to keep a lower key profile with my newer cars, often buying used.

(The vintage cars few rarely see!)

I feel like the Macan is a good compromise between traditional SUV and wagon. It's a true CUV. Saying it drives like a 911 is obviously a joke, but it drives better than a lot of sedans/wagons out there, plus you have the benefit of a higher perspective for what its worth. I'm not a fan of big truck-like SUV's (cayenne included). This one changed my mind.

Go test drive one. It looks miles better in the flesh than in pics.
