Hi All, There was a holiday in Munich recently for 2 days so we decided to come via Stuttgart on the way to see the new 200 Million Euro Porsche Museum (also any excuse to drive on the autobahn). Was well worth the visit. Only opened 3 weeks ago and we could could still smell the fresh paint. Most of you probably know the history, but I thought I'd share some photo's with those who are interested. I guess the biggest thing for me was to learn that Porsche actually started in Grumnd, Austria where they built 52 cars over 3 years before relocating to Stuttgart. I also learnt that the famous "356" was the project number. Anyway, one thing that I do recommend those who do plan to visit, is to book in advance a meal at the restaurant. It's silver service and the food looked fantastic. We couldn't get in because we didn't book. So here are the photos. It'll take me a few posts to show them all. The last in this first lot is a classic. It's actually a photo of a video. Just picture a guy lying down with rear drive assembly resting on his ankles. He then rolls back lifting it into place. Workcare would have a nightmare. The last photo in this lot is a car develeoped for Ferry's 80th birthday. It never went into production. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
One thing that is great about all the race cars here is that they all compete at sometime around the world. Beama would probably remember this car from Targa 2008, the 356 Carrera GT, priceless. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
More photos. If I was ever to buy a Procshe I'd go for the 73 Carrera . (mind you I did love the Turbo in the showroom albeit 200,000 plus Euros. ) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

One thing we have all spoken about is the similar shape over the years. This next few shots shows that. I guess like Ferraris they have been made bigger. (Probably to suit the American market). One I thing I forgot to mention is that in this museum you are actually able to get up close to the cars. NO barriers. I thought that was great. I am about to start my next thread on another museum and you will see ropes and barriers which make taking photos very difficult.
It's bloody cold but been fun, I was 7 the last time I saw snow (not that long ago )so its been quite a great experience. This long weekend (hence the stop via Stuttgart) is their Marti Gras Moretts, but not like ours. It's a religous thing. Can't speak for Europe, but, in Germany its not good at the moment. The automotive sector is very big. Opel which is owned by GM is looking like closing with 400,000 "direct" employees losing their jobs. BMW has closed for 2 weeks and the company I am at are bascially on holiday. I must say though Australia is helping them. Today I saw 3 new trains for Pacific National and 1 for Queensland Rail. I have a photo from last time to show you what they look like. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks amazing! I wonder if they were the same cars they had at the GP last year. The 917-30 and GT1 look identical to the ones they had here.
Ian I believe that maybe case. As mentioned above all the race cars compete. Almost all of the race cars had recent scrutineering stickers, some from Goodward some from other road and track events. I only took photos of the Targa Tasmania car up close as it was close to home. I have never been a huge Porsche fan but I have to say I was very impressed with the racing history of these cars and having never driven one wouldn't rule out purchasing one. I must say they do seem to be a lot more reliable than F-Cars. Ooooops there goes my F-Chat membership.
Thanks Brett. (now we just wait for the idiot brigade to chime in with their parrot like "they're all the same" comments )
KIAI and I are not parrots ...... AAARRKKKKK AAARRRKKKKK .. we're eagles an egg is an egg is an egg I wouldn't knock back a 917-30 though
Should've titled the thread 'Big Bill takes the piss out of TATA IP thieves'. Looks an interesting display of the race cars.
