Weird situation. Found an awesome 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S that was off market being offered by a guy in Utah who is a Canadian citizen. He bought it off of BaT in Feb 2024, it was also titled in Canada and belonged to a guy from Taiwan. We agreed on a price we bought thought fair and I and my son (who is paying for the car and will be it’s new owner) and I located and purchased / shipped all of the parts needed to make the car perfect. The owner said he’s having problems registering it in UT to make the sale, wished us luck and has stopped responding to text messages. I told him he could drop the price and we would get a bonded title issued… no response. I told him about the parts we purchased… no response. Basically totally ghosted by the guy after he gave his word. Any advice?
Just let it go, sellers change their minds all the time for all kinds of reasons. He might have even done you a favor if there are title issues.
Does he have any deposit? Have you paid for the Cayenne? Ultimately "let it go" is the right advice, but, obviously, you'll want your deposit back.
It's a Cayenne. Look at the corner used lot, there's a dozen more. Move on, if you're into the guy for a deposit get it back. And consider it a lesson: never buy parts for a car you don't have.
You’re right. There are a TON of Cayenne Turbo S with 42k miles all over the place. Why didn’t I check. Thanks!
Has the car ever been titled in the US or only Canadian registered (there’s no such things as vehicle titles in Canada)? If the latter he’s likely run into the fun of trying to have it imported to the US officially, which would need to happen before it could be titled in UT. This comes with compliance requirements and taxes. eg probably not worth the hassle for him on a 20 year old suv worth a few thousand bucks? Hopefully you’re not out anything but some lost time and can find another.
If it's Canadian titled, but it has a US FMVSS sticker in it, then it should be no big deal to properly title it in the US. However, if it does not, then that's an issue. However, it sounds like the real problem is the guy ghosted you... good luck with that!
i once came to an agreement to sell my Speedster to an early Google employ. he wanted to send a deposit. i didn't want to bother. he backed out.... don't waste your time
