I'd love a Singer, but also something like this: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAY5fRglsb4]Bugatti Head of Design's Personal 911 Project - DRIVEN - YouTube[/ame] Beautiful and simple. 820kg! I'd put a ducktail on it though.
I'd love a Singer too, but I think I would get so much more back if I set aside time and money and started on a project like that myself. Let someone else take care of the engine build, but do the rest myself. I LOVE the idea of old 911 "Frankenstein" cars (you pick and install parts from all sorts of 911s based on what you want/need).
I think that's a great idea too, many people that is a huge project, possibly overwhelming? I think if you did so, then it would be great to use the Singer pattern, and then you are closer to having a "sorted" car when finished, as it is actually possible to build a "Frankenstein" that you might not enjoy to drive (or literally does try & kill you!)
combi in the Porsche & Martini livery ...and a lovely 911 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Singer is good and one of many very good builders. Jerry Woods in San Fransisco, Dave at TRE in LA or just a couple more that come to mind. Patric racing in Phoenix has excellent street 911 hot rods. One of the great things about the 1965-89 911's is the resources available and interchangeability of the series. Same windshield, same engine size (not displacement) same tub so all the different doors and finders will bolt on to all the different years. Huge parts availability from so many different manufactures. So many aftermarket 'Porsche only' shops for engine and transmission and interiors etc. It would be very easy to build what every you want with out much hands on experience since there are so many people to call on. The research gets all most over whelming because of the choices. Here is a picture of my old 1967 911S on one of many road trips. It had a twin plug, 8,000 RPM 2.0L engine. Ah the sound was amazing. 'Awesome car Fritz. 67S...without doubt one of the all time Porsche greats. Some even had factory sunroof's too.
that's a beauty! true, there are several very competent shops, and the 911 "formulas" that work, in terms of parts swaps (even in between other models) is well known now ...not a cheap neighborhood either, them Porsche parts (new or used)!
Thanks Mang an Jeremyjon, That was a particularly unique nice car, it was a special ordered and assembled in Sept. of 1966 with blue leather interior, outside temp gauge, rear wiper, Cibe hood mounted driving lights and more. Unfortunately,in my view, the new owner in Norway removed the factory installed unique features to make it look like a "show room stock" car which of course it never was. I had all the documentation which must not have gotten to him is my only explanation.

I drove that car a lot, over 20,000 miles. It had the perfect balance of sound, road feel, comfort and performance. A good road car should be exciting to drive but not wear you out. It should not make so much noise as to get aggravating or ride so harsh to get uncomfortable. A good road car should not be so comfortable to put you to sleep. If you can not wait to get out of the car and have a meal and relax in the hotel then maybe the car is to harsh for a good road car or if you would rather fly and just get there then your car is to boring and does not engage you enough. Out of all the 911's I have had that one was one of the best road cars of them all. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
AGREED completely! I had a 9 year love affair with my '66! Can't get that car back, but do have fond memories of racin around, lookin like a bada$$ I had a motor rebuild during my ownership period and went with 2.2S specs and converted the solexes to webers too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Another shot...I was already on to this 'upgrade' world with this '66. It had 'carrera' wheels, euro headlight upgrade, Recaro racing seats, custom stereo, the beefed up motor. Color was 'chiffon white' a modern Porsche color (this was the 80's), white colored wheels was an 80's thing ....miss those pop out rear wing windows too I also remember acquiring Fulda radials! Anyone remember those? They were the bomb application for these cars back in the day! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mang, Very nice! Those pop out rear windows and the working wing windows were the best, I feel like back dating my 930 with those and removing the AC.
