I'll agree that with some of the higher end cars you need more income, but I don't think it gives an indication of wealth. In my last job my clients were highly educated and specialized and earned anywhere from $700,000 to $2,000,000 annually. With very few exceptions they had incredible things(cars, boats, houses, you name it) but very little net worth. The most common complaint I listened to was, "How the hell am I going to pay my bills this month?". There is a significant difference between income and wealth and I don't think it's really possible to guage wealth through typically available consumer products. Obviously there are exceptions, most notably art(including automotive art). If a guy owns a 250GTO you can pretty safely assume he's got some scratch. :)

I would guess on the CGT they're not far off. I also think you're right. If you consider the massive depreciation hit you would take on a CGT(assuming you paid sticker) it might make more sense to do a 24 month lease. I'm sure some 550 Barchetta owners wish they had leased. Same story with the GT2 I'm sure.

Back to Ryan's original question. Do any of these "buy 1, get X" programs work with higher end items? I've never been lured into a purchase by the offer of something "free". Anyone bite on these things or know people that do?

I'm not sure. I always thought it would be an interesting idea. Like buy a yacht and they throw in a jetski for free.

I've been wondering if people would be interested in 'turn-key' villas in Europe, professionally managed and secured in the off-season, complete with a luxury car/sports car, maid/chef services, etc. Kind of like a central, professional all-inclusive concierge service for multiple properties.

Figure a guy making $100K a year is going to go home with roughly $5,000 per month after taxes, benefits and a decent (~8%) 401K contribution.

I see lease payments for Murci's hovering around $2499 with 10-20% down. Mind you this is a chunk of change at $20-$50K for a down payment!

Say the guy is a bachelor leasing a loft for $1500 per month, that's already 80% of his monthly take home gone between the house and the car. Let's not forget insurance, gas and enough scratch to take all the fine women out that the car will attract.

$100K is DEFINATELY not enough money, especially after saving all of your nickels and dimes for the initial downpayment outlay of $25-50K. You could buy a near-new Lotus Esprit TT for that and have reasonably similar performance numbers...

A $2500 mo. lease (Murci/Rolls/Whatever) would be a stretch at $10K per month takehome. Especially if the lessor has additional obligations like a mortgage, child support, INVESTMENTS... etc.

Nope, your car budget should NEVER exceed 20% of your takehome. And that's IF you want to make payments.

You ever drive one? You own one? I do. The TT Cayenne is a GREAT truck. It hunkers down to 5.75 inches on the highway and will criuse at just about 3X the speed limit until you run out of fuel. Off road it will go from Paris to Dakar and it's sister Tourag has finished third in that race. It will take 5+ luggage and skis and haul a nice sized horse trailer. It's brakes are massive and everything works. Oil Service at 20K Engine at 100K. This vehicle has made P the most profitable car co. in the world. As for the CGT ever drive one of those? I have and it's a great car as well. Unlike F P continues to race sportscars and is soon going back to Le Mans. When the flag drops the bulls hit stops.

"People with money and capital are going to sweep up a LOT of US real estate IMO."

I don't know - there seem to be a lot of people who believe this, I wonder if that provides some sort of odd "floor" on valuation.

Napolis: I've come to believe the bulls hit NEVER stops, even after the flag drops - it just evolves. ;)

True. True: The MK-IV's had 7 liters we only had 4 that's why they won.
Ferrari didn't put enough effort into the Can Am. If they had they would have won! (This time they did have 7 liters so it had to be lack of effort)
Audi makes sedans they'll never win Le Mans!!!!

Bookstores and friends are the best places and ways to meet women for something serious. The discriminating mind, however, can find a few nuggets at places where substances are flowing. ;) Friends are still the best.
