i have been told by several folks that my 84 Euro 911 Carrera is a "special wishes" program car. i know the car came from Germany, as i have the manuals, tools, medical kit ect and the manuals have all of the German stamps.

what is blowing my mind is, no one can put into accurate words "HOW" they "know" its a special wishes car. i was told the car was ordered this way in 83 and a new model. the Carrera in 84 was all new and launched a great new line of 911's.

the gentleman i bought my black Ferrari 308 GTB from works for Porsche N.A. in Atlanta and has been working with someone else in Germany to get the details of the car verified. 2 months later, and i still dont know anything, but i dont blame the guy in Atlanta, there is not alot of info ANYWHERE on the net, Rennlist or Pelicans Parts websites.

there has got to be a 911 guru out there that knows the codes, or some way to tell if this is a good car to keep, or just a beater Carrera i can "beat" on and modify. it would be a shame to butcher the car if it is rare, as its all original now.

advice , thoughts would be great.

and i still want a damn Jalpa too :)

i dont really know Ryan. i was told it was special ordered in 1983 through the "special wishes" program . the buyer and his wife then moved to Florida from Germany for business reasons and then retired. the wife drove the car a good bit as her name is on half of the service records. this moss green color and the wierd interior / suspension options were special order only. moss green was a very sought after color in germany. on other rare cars there are codes or "something" to show its a "special" car. other than some paint and some options, its a Euro Carrera with the better motor and bigger engine oil and gearbox coolers. the books i have read and things i have seen online speak of the " Special Wishes " program in a reverent way that still leaves one in a fog. be a waste to chop it up for a club race car......

    Mike,

I have owned several P-cars over the past couple of years...member of PCA, etc.

I think you just inadvertantly answered your own question when you said that the "weird" color combination & suspension were "SPECIAL ORDER ONLY"!!!! :)

It is my understanding that a special wishes car is a car that was ordered from the factory by the original owner to that owner's personal specifications...ie "special request/wish" (I am about 90% sure that is what the special wishes program was).

For example, I could place an order under the "special wishes" program and get a moss green 911 Carrera with purple interior, sport suspension, sunroof delete, with black fuchs....of course this is an exageration, but, you get my point.

Another example, ASSUMING your car is 100% original, from your picture, I can point out that I have NEVER seen green Fuchs, that could have been a special request...your car has a turbo tail...again, special request....your car is rear wiper delete...again, special request??? See my point? The list could extend to your suspension, interior, etc...Again, ASSUMING your car is 100% original, it could have been built that way per the original owners request.

The best thing to do is contact a Porsche dealer with an older salesman/manager or owner and ask them what the special wishes program is. Again, I am about 90% sure that my above discription is correct. OR if you have the ownership history, contact owner #1!!!

    Mike,

Another thing I forgot to mention. I am not sure whether or not there is a letter or number code in your vin that would indicate that this is a special wishes car, only that the options (as listed in the vin/build code) would be unusual in a sense...in other words, if Porsche did not originally mass produce cars built to the specs of your particular car, then that would tend to indicate that your car was built that way per special request.

I have a couple of contacts at a few Porsche dealerships. If you would like, I could probably get one of my buddies to run your vin through the dealership computer and get your original build information. I did this on my '76 911s.

    Let me know.

Probably not Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes), but probably ordered using a few options in 1983 that weren't normally available in 1984.

Moss Green Metallic was a standard '83 color that was deleted for '84.

    Your other options show:

    261- Passenger side mirror
    441- radio, speakers, antenna amplifier
468- graduated tint windshield, green side glass
    474- sport shocks
    533- alarm
    559- a/c
    650- sunroof

So...nothing terribly unusual. "Special Wishes" typically would be something like paint to color match sample or a custom rootwood dash, etc.

Looks like a great Carrera though!

:) i would REALLY appriciate that!

i have tried to call the folks on the service history only once, and got nowhere. i was told the car was most likely a trade in that ended up at the auction where my car dealer buddy found it. Joe bought it and had it for a month or as one of his cars. i had already sold my 85 jalpa and wanted something to play with. the car has been on ferrariads for sale for a few weeks, i am trying to make myself keep it as its so well sorted. i drive the 911 places i wont take the 308, but i want another Lambo, given all that i have learned about them.

there are several pics of the vin, if you can figure anything out, please let me know.

i thought it was a "regular" Carrera too. but all of the local cars i have seen , including a euro 84 are different from this one. the tail, the wheels all have that "patina" that a 22 year old car would have. the paint is definately original as is the interior, which is a very dark green / black. car has the sport Bilstiens ( i just replaced all 4) , trans cooler, huge euro oil cooler, high compression 3.2 with a factory "performance ???" exhaust. if its a regular carrera, i may join the local PCA and track the car, i need to learn how to drive at a higher level, and a 35 year old 308 is not a track car. :)

    thanks for the replies!
