... the hand writing is on the wall. Porsche 991 GT3 inside look - interview with Andreas Preuninger - YouTube!
I'm surprised, just because the Porsche nerds are going bonkers. you'd think they'd want their customers to be happy. but if you're a fan of the 3 pedal gearbox, start buying cars now...they won't be around much longer. good riddance, I say.
Strange, I at first thought that this meant the owners manual would be on CD instead of being printed - Because the other is so unthinkable.
so they are using that motor because there is no more room in the factory and the rest of the line up uses that block ? classic
Sad but predictable. I'm planning to buy what will likely be my last brand new sports car in the next couple of years. Why? I think sticks will be gone soon. Ferrari was first. The only question is who will be last? Dave
A GT3 was never the fastest, it was the most engaging to drive though, so adding the speed of a PDK takes away from the GT3 experience.. At the track I hardleyt ever see a turbo, but there are always GT3's , it was the fun fully engaging one to drive. Now you can just buy a GTR, seriously whats the difference. Remember when a Turbo was the ultimate porche, then they became bloated luxobarges too dull and heavy, something for pl;astic surgeons and rich soccer moms. Then along came the GT3 a s imple car with added lightness. I guess the poseur crowd now wants to drive the GT3. Porche thinks taking the specialness out of the car and adding some HP is the answer, I think they have ruined the GT3 franchise, and no amount of BS is going to overcome that. Same happened with m series cars, once they were special, the whole driving experience was different, now they are just faster versions of the regukar car. These new cars may well be performance cars, but they are not sports cars. Frankly there are many performance cars to buy, every manufacturer makes one, so why buy the porche. I hope Chevy really has done a great job witht he new vette, it may well be one of the last true sportscars. Remember its not all about ultimate performance, its also about the driving drama and experience, hence the aventador despite its shortcomings is sold out(YES I KNOW ITS pdk) because it offers drama and experience. There is a reason why a lotus evora was picked over a new 991 in a mgazine test. It was not because of build, or even raw numbers, it was all about driving expeorence and pleasure. I think porche has lost the plot. Plus now they offer a car that is cheaper to build, with a less exotic motor for more money.
long live my 500+ hp 930 turbo w/ 930 box. scary, scary fast, super involving! i see the direction that the quick automatic gearboxes are going and they are gaining steam. i accept it but just don't want one pcb
They are gaining steam because a large percentage of non performance buyers take them up,they save fuel, and are good for emissions, and compred to a manual the PDK is easier to engineer to meet legislative targets.. Same goes for EPS.
Yes and the google driverless car will remove all driver error. the whole point is to drive these things and learn.
dad: son...back in my day we use to heel and toe. son: dad, you are getting old. there is no such thing as a heel and a toe!
The majority are not drivers but just poseur's these days. They will get the car that they really want someday. One that drives itself so they can text and play games on their goofy little phone while they look good pulling up to their destination. Real driver's will have to take care of the cars that they have as it looks like they will be the last made for people that actually enjoy driving and know how.
this is how i really see it and feel. i will keep and preserve my car and my driving skills...the ferrari boxer, porsche 930 turbo and my eventual 427 cobra all stay!!!!!!!
I share the same thoughts. I'm not anti paddleshift, just not in a GT3... Less is more, right... And more is less...
This thread migght be titled porche threw away the 911 with the 991. Seriously the 991 is a modern 928 with the engine in the rear. Nothing wrong with that, but its not a 911. Remember when the 928 came out it was "better" than the 911 in every objective way, they even stopped developing the 911 and said they would make it so long as there was demand. I think they are making a collosal long term mistake, porche is abandoning the core product niche, the product from which its entire sporty car cred is derived. Of course if they make a manual cayman with the new GT3 motor all might be forgiven. But that will pretty much never happen as the money cow that is the 991 cant be upstaged for marketing reasons.
Consider that the Cayman is generally considered Porsche's best "driver's" car. Now consider it is their worst seller by a large margin. And it is likely most of the new model will be sold with automatics aka PDK. The market has spoken. Dave
