Thinking of getting an 06 or 07 Porsche 997 Turbo for ski season next year

Is the tiptronic trans faster or better than the manual ?

Lot's of people will knock the tip, but if it's good enough for Hurley Haywood, it's good enough for me. Porsche also lists it as being faster 0-60.

So many people complain of becoming bored of the tip within a month. I wouldn't risk it.

I found that sometimes I wanted a quick gear chance or a slow one and was always stuck with what the tip was giving me.

Sometimes it nice not having to change gears. (if that's what trips your trigger, go for it)

I'd never own a car like this without it being a manual. To much fun.

If the speed difference between a tip and manual is that important to you, you are, a very discriminating buyer, indeed.

    ;)

Get a 6 speed manual, who cares if its slower its more fun to drive IMO. How are you liking the Z06?

I think Porsche is coming out with a dual-clutch transmission of their own some time in the next year, and that should be hurried by the fact they just bought into VW. I'd wait out for that if you can manage.

+1. Are you running speed trials for a car magazine or driving for fun?

I had a Tip in my 993 -- nice for daily driver, boring for recreational driving.

    Hello William.....!!!

The Tiptronic is quite faster 0-60.......

Is it better ? It's a personal call.

A $3500 clutch roughly every 30,000 miles.......versus zero maintenance on the Tiptronic for life is quite a variable. However, if you can afford the car, what's $3500. Right ?

The steering wheel buttons are a pain, and I never use them. I just put it in "D" for drive and mash the gas pedal when I want to go. And go it does.

I personally prefer the 6 speed insofar as driver involvement in concerned.

While DSG will eventually get into the 911, I expect it to be at least 2 years away according to the PCNA tech rep I spoke to recently. So if you want that, buy a tip now and wait 3 years for DSG, because I bet the first year or two will be a tough time for that new tranny.

If Porsche only built the Turbo with the Tiptronic, I'd still buy one.

You mean you haven't taught your gf how to "handle a stick" yet? Very, very remiss of you. ;) :D

Tiptornic is just a fancy word for slush-o-matic. It is really cr*ppy. It actually jerks a lot... almost like an F1 system, is slow witted... Only get it if you think you will be in a lot of traffic.

Are you doing a full cage or just a roll bar? I wouldnt mind having a full cage in a street car but some people do. Once you get the exhaust and intake it should really wake up that beast. Most likely gains of around 40-50 more rwhp its gonna be a whole new machine.
