My mechanic just picked up a 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo (red/black). He muttered something about wanting to swap it for my 89 Carrera 4. Milage and condition are the same. Good deal or run away?

tough to call. i guess it is a matter of what you want to do. i have a hugely modified 87 930 and would not trade it for any other p car. the c4 may be fun w/ its awd however the performance will not compare w/ the 930. the wide body of the 930 is very nice to me as well. your friend may like the suspension and interior comfort a bit more w/ the c4 however...as the air cond. actually works!

Miles? records? condition? Lots of variables there.

Drive one first. They are totally different animals. Your C4 is very refined compared to the Turbo. Decide what feeling you're after.

Both cars have full records and are well sorted. I think they both have ~104k miles on them and are both solid #2 cars (not concours cars, I may judge them, but I don't own garage queens).

I've driven an early 930 and it was a blast. The 964 is more of my daily driver and I may want to keep it just for the comfort level.

What the hell, its only money. I may just buy it and keep the C4 if the turbo knocks my socks off.

the mileage on the turbo worries me a bit. these were very fast cars in stock trim and absolute rockets with the proper mods. this however is the reason they can be a bit of a risk as the engines got used...alot!!! the temptation to blast around all the time is hard to resist. be aware that the 930 motor may be in need of freshening. 911turboclub.com is a good place for you to get more info...albiet biased!!

    best, pcb
