How do you think the new Porsche Turbo S compares with the Italia? They say the new Turbo S does 0-60 in 2.7 sec and is quite fast on the N Ring track.
The Turbo is as quick, if not a little quicker, but the 458 feels lighter and sportier and more agile. It also sounds and looks better. The Porsche is more practical and easier to drive long distances with cruise control and more luggage space. The 458 has a softer ride. The Turbo uses less fuel. Their acceleration is the only area where they are really alike. Hope this helps.

The Turbo may be faster.... but one has to look real close to tell a regular 911 apart from turbo or a boxster for that matter... and this is true for the last 30+ years styling for Porsche....BORING! 458 on the other hand is instantly recognizable as an exotic. Parked side by side most ppl would probably not give the turbo a second look.

those numbers are fakes, 7:32 on nürburgring, 3,1 0-100 km/h, yeah sure, in your dreams... and the old 2008 porsche turbo did 7:38...
True. Only a sports car enthusiast would appreciate the turbo. Porsche is a much better car for every day driving.
7.32 comes from AutoBild test, driven by a professional race car driver and comparing to SLS, Lambo, GT-r, LFA, Turbo S cab. Those times are legit. Not comparable to Sport-Auto, though.
The 911 Turbo S IMHO is the probably the best everday usable sports car on the planet currently. Personally, I would prefer a GT3RS as a weekend car, but for everyday driving the 911 Turbo "S" takes the prize. Saying that, the 458 is such a magnificent looking and driving car, that I wouldn't want to drive it everyday, as it would be like having Ice Cream everyday. Just my 2cents, both are fantastic cars, truly the golden age of the Automobile.
I had a Turbo S on order after owning 4 different Porsche cars including 2 GT3's. I canceled the order after test driving the Turbo S recently. Sure the car is extremely capable, fast and far exceeds any "street needs" but it just wasn't exciting enough for me to drive. A car in this price range and above should 'make your blood boil" and "set your soul on fire" looking at it and driving it. The Turbo S just didn't do that for me... The F430/Scud/458 do! So in conclusion, the way I look at it is the Turbo S is a "Stepford Wife" perfect in every respect for every day but the 458 is an "Italian Mistress" for the weekends (boy I hope my wife doesn't read these forums!) As always, YMMV... I made my decision and should have a 458 in about a year's time with an F430 to tide me over in the mean time.
Well said...I recently drove the new Turbo S...very fast, very good handling and good steering feel...as fast as it was , its not as exciting to drive as the f430- i havent driven the 458 yet. You go fast in the porsche and you cant even tell its going fast and the exhaust note is very disappointings. I t doesnt have the high reving screaming Ferrari engine. And it does not have the turn on its axis feel of the mid engine Ferrari. The Porsches styling is bland. They are two very different cars. To be honest, the new Boxster Spider that I drove was more fun to drive than the Turbo.
Precisely! I just traded my Boxster Spyder with 410 miles in anticipation of the Turbo S arrival... I do miss the Boxster Spyder.. What a fun car for the streets.. Of course the F430 I am picking up this Saturday has me all excited! The 458 is definitely something to look forward to in a year's time as well. Hopefully the 458 will stay with me for a long time after that!
Automobilismo drove the 458 to a 0-100 time of 3.13s. The old Turbo did not do 7:38 on a full course lap with a passenger. That time of 7:32 for the 458 was also for the full course and with a passenger.
I dont care what the numbers say, I'd take the Italia over the S.... AWD is boring. The Italia is sexier too.
I could never understand these "numbers on paper" arguments... If one is buying a car for the track to race, it is one thing, when guys start arguing about the absolute numbers and intend to drive the car on the street and hardly ever to never on the track, what's the point? Does it really matter if the 0-60 is .2 or .5 sec faster? Will anyone even notice that difference by the seat of the pants? Yes, the Turbo S with the PDK in launch mode will rip a 2.7 sec 0-60 or there abouts, how many times are you going to do that realistically? Want to replace tires and stress the drivetrain with those kind of launches on a $170k car daily??? Surely there are cheaper drag racers out there... Numbers will also differ on different days, the tires, the weather, the driver, etc.. For bragging rights, numbers are good, for everything else street related, they just don't matter as much as most make them out to be. If the car is to be driven on the street, pay more attention to how much it stirs your soul and less how it compares to others on paper... especially when it comes to such potent and capable cars as the Turbo S and the 458 Italia... Maybe it's just me but I absolutely don't care if the Turbo S is any faster or handles better or worse than the 458 since it doesn't do much for me emotionally.
I agree 100% and have been saying the same for years. Is it true that to hit 60 MPH in 3 or 4 seconds, that it must be done in 1st gear? If this is true, how many times you gonna do that?
if i know well the porsche accelrates only a few meters in 1st gear then it changes to 2nd(some hungarian journalist tell that, here is a video about that: http://auto.indavideo.hu/video/Eszjatek_530_loval__Porsche_Launch_Control - go to 00:35 and listen), and the 458 reaches 60 in 2nd gear too, then it changes to 3rd, but i don't realy know that one, because i can't found the gear ratios(the maximum speed you can do in each gear) oh and by the i want a 458 too

Amazing car but the extra performance is impractical unless one is tracking it (or lives near the 'bahn) Id rather have something with 7/8ths the performance but much more exotic and rare...like a 458
