Hi was wondering if any of you owns a 2006 Boxter manual? Some questions I have Can the car fit a 6'1 dude on a daily basic Is the manual gearbox better to drive than the triptonic The one I am looking at is not the boxter S Thanks for your replies
A few years ago I was considering both a Boxster and an Audi TT. I ended up going with the Audi. I am your height and it felt cramped in the boxster, with the top up. With the top down, it was a great experience. Comparing the interiors of the 2 cars and it wasn't even close. The boxster felt very cheap in comparision. The drive however was much better. In the end I chose the TT for practicality purposes (AWD, hatch back, etc..) Hope this helps.
Was that Boxster a 986 (pre 2005) or the new 987 variant? Porsche improved the interiors substantially between those two models. As for manual or tip, that is such a personal choice, asking others for input is meaningless. Do you like to shift, yes or no? (if yes, manual) Will you drive the car in traffic a lot? (if yes, tip) Do you ever drive the car hard? (if yes, manual) Personally I would aways take a manual, especially if I had the lower HP non-S. But then I don't spend 3 hours in traffic every day. If I did and this car was my daily driver, I MIGHT choose a tip, but I doubt it.
Ah my bad. I didnt see the model year in teh original post. I was looking at a 99 boxster when I was in the market.
thanks for both your replies, with the new facelift, would the cabin have more leg space? I drive my cars a little bit too hard sometimes.. hehe. so i guess a manual it is
Space depends on "where you are tall". If you have a tall torso, you're in a little trouble with fit. The differences between the 1999 and 2006 models are night and day. Manuals are always a better choice if you like driving and hearing noise and if you want to be fully involved with the performance of the car. That and the Boxster doesn't have the best system for changing gears {without a clutch}, I'm not a fan of the Porsche Tip at all. I wouldn't mind for maybe one day per month but never all the time. The base Boxsters are now much sportier than they used to be but if you're going to track or want all out acceleration or just the "best of everything", get the S.
Hey, Sat in a Boxster, when my dad was picking up his Q7 at the Audi/VW/Mazda/Porsche Dealer, it felt pretty good, but the interior feels and looks cheap! Even when you look at the Cayenne and then get into a Q7, it's like going forward a couple years. I then sat in a TT, it had a wayy better interior, and the DSG tranny is awesome, it seems. Vicki from 5th Gear tested a manual TT and a DSG and the DSG was faster.
6-1 should be ok unless you are HUGH.....its a great car, even with the non s engine...better sounding than the 911 and better handling...way more sporty than the audi tt,or any audi short of the r8...i would only get the new tt if it was going to be a daily driver for long highway dsitances and stop and go, ...then i would get a dsg tt.............
I have a '99 Boxster & I have driven the new ones. You should not have any trouble fitting in either iteration of the Boxster. I sat in the TT and I had to put the seat all the way down and cocked pretty far back to fit...even at that, when I hit a hard bump or went over a curb, my head woud hit the roof. That car looks cool, but once inside, the severe rake of the roof cuts down on head room for guys over 6 foot tall...of course this is only my opinion, and is based on first hand experience... BTW, I am 6-3" & an athletic 225lbs...
thansk for all the replies, drove the boxter.. it was nice. but the S rocks.. well have not made my mine yet.. may try the caymas s . I am leaning towards the boxter S for now anyone who has owned both cars .. the boxter s and the Cayman? care to share their views?
I have owned a Boxster since 2000, but have only test driven Caymans a few times. It all comes down to whether you want a drop top or not. It is really an apples and oranges comparison due to this overwhelming difference. I think the Cayman looks better, but I also found it "boom-y" on the interior. That huge rear glass can lead to a thwomp thwomp sound effect as you drive, I noticed, similar to what some cars do when you open a sun roof with the windows up. I would say you can't lose either way you go, just decide on whether you want a convertible or not.
I'm 6'2" and I have no problems with my 99 Boxster. I've had it for 8 years now, and I've really enjoyed the car to the fullest. The S2000 and MZ3 were WaY too small for me, and newer cars like the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky share the same problem. (Ironically, a Miata fits me fine, go figure..)
Do you ever bring cars in from the states for customers? I assume it would be worth while for you even though the paperwork and time would be a cost.
4-5 a month actually.......it's been like that since February 2006. I cannot keep up right now. Many people cannot take the time to do it so for a small % I do it.
As long as they save a couple of thousand {it doesn't have to be 7 or 8k} I'm sure you'll have a flock of people whenever you choose.
That's funny - I'm 6'3" & recently did a 1500 mile road trip in my Z3 with 11 hour non-stop stints at each end. Go figure That said, the Carrera 4 would have been much more comfortable, but not as much fun in the mountain roads.
i am 6'4 and 200lbs. i own a 2007 987 boxster and fit very comfortably in the car . i have the standard , non power seats which go a little further back and lower than the power seats . the difference is night and day better than the pre-2005 986 boxsters .
I may not be as tail as some of you guys but iam wide as heck and could still fit inside of one without any issues.
