Any recomendations for hotels in Portalnd. Looking for clean newer upscale hotels.
Lots of good ones in Downtown PDX. Benson Hilton http://www.hotellucia.com/ - never been there but looks cool.
The Governor is cool but not new by any means. But with Jakes downstairs, it would be top on my list!
I stayed at the Lucia before. the rooms were smaller, it was remodeled but mostly cosmetic. Looked a lot better on the web site
I stayed there when it was the 5th Avenue Suites. Pretty good overall larger and nicer rooms than the Lucia. I want to try somwhere I have not been to
Have you thought about going to Cannon Beach or perhaps Carlton/Yamhill area for some wine tasting? If you do go to Carlton the most amazing French food here: http://www.cuveedining.com/
Personally, I think The Heathman is the gold standard for downtown Portland hotels. It's not new, but the only newer hotels you'll find are in the suburbs, and I can't think of one that's particularly good. The Benson would be the other great one in downtown, but I have no idea how the rooms are. I guess the Paramount is actually new, but it doesn't look that impressive from the outside. Certainly not up to the standard of the Heathman.
I've heard that the 5th Avenue Suites is pretty nice. It's downtown. That's where the participants in the FNA Rally stayed last year.
I've stayed at the Heathman, Lucia, Hilton, Westin, Marriott, and 5th Avenue Suites in PDX. I rank them: 1) Westin 2) Lucia (their service is unbelievable) 3) Heathman 4) Marriott 5) Hilton 6) 5th Ave Suites We stayed at the 5th Ave Suites during the Ferrari Challenge Rally. The basement parking garage is nice, but that's the high point. The rooms are old and smell funny. Stay at the Westin or Lucia.
I never think about the Westin, even though my office was across the street while they were building it! Good to know that it's nice.
I recently stayed at the http://www.riverplacehotel.com/ while on a trip in my 500 Superfast. Nice centrally located, with good secure parking.
The Governor is great. I can see both the Hilton and the Governor from my condo, which means easily within walking distance to the Pearl. Depends on what you want to do in PDX, but both of those hotels are in a good location. As for Jake's being downstairs, definitely a plus. You'll want to book in advance, I've tried short notice to get a room for a friend (1 week out) and they were booked up. I've stayed in at least 4 of the rooms myself and while they're all different, they have a real hotel feel to them and the views are nice of the west hills.
I've stayed in their penthouses....it's only OK. I have ZERO recendations for PDX hotels...not impressed with any of them.
I too am not too impressed with most PDX hotels. They usually have smaller rooms and are remodeled older hotels. We ended up staying in Astoria and driving to PDX in the morning. I highly recomend the Cannery Pier hotel: http://www.cannerypierhotel.com/about.htm All the rooms face the Columbia river and are good sized, the tub also has a view of the Columbia. Fantastic service, new hotel, great getaway spot
