Anyone going? It starts a week from today (Thursday) at the Oregon Convention Center. Tickets are only $10. http://www.portlandautoshow.com/
Either friday or saturday depending on who I can drag along with me. I've never been to the convention centre here before so I have no idea about parking.
From what I have heard there really isnt any parking. I'm going to take the Max-line. I am busy Thursday so I am probably going Friday. I'll be there most of the day. The purchase tickets button on the website isnt working for me. Anybody else having problems? Or can I just buy a ticket at the door?
Parking is limited and expensive, but it exists. You can always buy tickets at the door, the convention center is pretty big so it wont sell out. The problem last year was the line for the 288/f40/f50/enzo exhibit. It was something like 45 minutes on the weekend, so thats why I'm going on thursday night.
Also, I just picked up todays paper, and inside it says the following cars will be on display. Quatroportte F430 Enzo F50 Diablo Saleen S7 I only wish they could have the 288 and F40 again ):
I agree with "DONV", I would really like to see the Super America too! I'll be going too but not sure when yet. Cheers Kurt ____________________________________________________ There is nothing like a Ferrari, there never has been and never will be!
Here's some info for you folks planning to attend the show. First off, there is parking at the convention center. The entry to the garage is on the South end of the building off Lloyd Blvd. Its $8.00 to park there and there is parking for 800 cars. Competitive parking areas around the center will (usually) charge even more for parking - like the guy at the Cambridge Center that is just North of the convention center. He usually suckers people in for anywhere between $10-$15.00 to park. IGNORE his sign - as it sayz "Convention Center Parking" but its NOT!! Best time to go is in the evenings around dinner time - the crowds really slack off. Opening day evening is, by far, the BEST time to go. The Exotics will NOT be in the same location as last year. They will be on display in an area called "Ginko Berry Lane". If you enter the main entry (off of MLK) the exotics will be to your left and down the stairs. If you come in from the OCC parking structure its will be right off the first floor elevator. The inventory on display (as previously mentioned) looks to be pretty accurate. Not only am I an F-Chatter, and F car owner, but I also happen to be the Sr. Events Manager here at the center - although NOT my show to manage this year. Enjoy! Bruce McKinney
Bruce Since the exotics will be in a differn't area will there still be a line to get in to see them? Say... how about a hospitality room next to the display area for FCA members? A little cheese/wine kinda thing? And easy access to the display area without the line? Sorry I'm being a little over the top huh? Cheers Kurt ____________________________________________________________ There is nothing like a Ferrari, there never has been and never will be!
Kurt, I know that show management is trying to do some sort of queing line past the exotics. However, I can tell you that the location of where the exotics are this year came as a COMPLETE surprise to the event manager in charge of the auto show this year. This location never showed up on any previously submitted floor plans and was not approved by the Fire Marshal prior to today. In fact, the Fire Marshal showed up today and nixed some of their queing plans and free-standing kiosks. So, what they are doing, I don't know. Guess I will find out when I return to work on Thusday. In the mean time, I will certainly enjoy the next two days off!!! Regarding the wine and cheese hospitality room....HA....I cant afford what that place charges for a cheese tray and glass of wine, let alone a hospitality room. Management makes it VERY CLEAR that just because you work there, you get ZERO breaks on prices. Bruce
It was a good show. There were no F50's around, though. I looked everywhere! There were two elises and an Exceige (or how is it spelled?), a bunch more Maseratis, and some car that was before my time. It was purple and twin turbo, I dont recall the name though.
I checked out the show today. I thought there was a really nice lineup of exotics...even if the exotic area was "hidden". There was an Exige, not the U.S. spec though, a european spec with a Rover engine. Two Elises, two Maseratis (a Quattroporte and something I can't remember right now) The Enzo was there along with a 430 coupe sitting next to a 430 spider. I'm sure many of us have seen the Saleen S7 that's been in the RTGT showroom for awhile and it was on display along with a Lambo Diablo GT. You'll notice that I didn't mention the F50. The F50 was a no show but they brought something fantastic in its place. Having never seen one in person, I was shocked to see the Vector W8 made an appearance! I've admired that car for a long time and it was nice to finally see one in the flesh so to speak. The staff were all courteous and really seemed to enjoy talking about the cars. After enduring the attitude that the Ford reps were dealing out when asked about the GT, the guys from tonkin were excellent. Great show.
The Cayman S looks better in person than it does in pictures. I go to sit in it also. Very nice. The new Z06 is cool. Interior lets it down though. (Not for the first time) The Viper Coupe is better looking than the convertible I think. The Lotus Exige was sweet. It had been on the road some time recently as it was a little dirty. The Lambo was perfect. The first Diablo I have ever seen. And of course the Vector W8. Never seen one of those before. It may have been cooler than the Enzo. How many W8s were made?
Almost forgot I sat in the M5 also. I was amazed on how quiet it was inside the car. There were 2 people talking to each other right outside the drivers door and I could barely hear them.
Very accurate. 17 production cars, 2 pre-production cars, W2, AWX3 and AWX3R. (22 True Vectors (All American)).
