Does anyone from Portland still read this section? All I see are Seattle area posts.

Maybe us Portland guys have been too busy driving our cars? I have!

Check in frequently (once/twice per day usually). But I am jealous of all of the activity happening to our north.

I think the reason the Seattle folks communicate on this site often is because we meet and do things together. We see each other and it gives us something to talk about (or rib each other about). We have the opportunity to meet members from the 'nether' regions at these times too.

Usually it just takes a person with initiative. Pick a time and a place to meet. Lay out an itinerary, a route to drive and a place to stop and eat. Show up early, bring a Family Service Radio. When the time comes to leave, take off and have a nice drive with yourself and your mate, or friend, whether somebody shows up or not.

Take a lot of pictures and post them in the NW section. Make everyone jealous and eventually it will catch on. People 'will talk'.

It's all a matter of priorities. How important is Ferrari ownership in your life. How much time are you willing to spend on your hobby? I asked a friend of mine that doesn't drive his much, "Why own it if you aren't going to drive it?".

Yeah yeah, we all have obligations and families and businesses, so , drive the Ferrari or go golfing? Drive the Ferrari or watch football? Drive the Ferrari or mow the lawn?

They invented TVO for a reason. The lawn will be there when you get back.

It would be great to do a joint driving event with the Oregon folks. Meet halfway from both directions, have lunch, then go for a nice drive somewhere.

I would love to do the gorge and Maryhill.

A few years back I took my dad on a day trip up the gorge to Wishram and back to Portland on the magnificent 4-8-4 steam locomotive 4449 (owned by the city of Portland). The drive wheels are 84 " high just to give you an idea how big this thing was. What a killer experience. Talk about POWER!

Thanks to 911 insurance rates prohibit steam excursions like the one we took. Glad I had the chance.

That would be fun. I'd even be willing to go down there and make a short weekend out of it. Maybe head down Friday night meet up for dinner or drinks. Have a drive Saturday morning then head back north Saturday night. Could be fun!!

Anyone down there know some good roads?

John, you've got to do Cannon Beach next year.

The Club goes to Cannon Beach every year as a joint WA-OR event. Some of us leave on the Friday morning of that weekend so we could have fun drive down and an extra day at the beach. There's a lot of very nice coastal roads in the area. Probably more we haven't explored yet.

Adding another event would be nice.

I definitely want to try and make that one next year. I was thinking more about just a semi-spontaneous weekend thing. Just like we do some of our drives up here but to include our friends from down south.

Every time the Cannon Beach event rolls around, i seem to be busy (ironic, since I own a place about 5 miles south of there and go frequently).

There is a nice little restaurant district in Kelso, and I would think there are some good roads around there. Typically, I only drive through on I-5!

    Don,

I hope that you can make it to Cannon Beach in May. I would love to see that '79 512BB you recently bought!

THREE Boxers showed up at Cannon Beach last time. Mine, Gerhard R. from Tacoma and Tom S. from Portland. (Tom has owned his '83 Boxer since '85)

I love going to P-land area. I'd be up for a cruise down and around there.

Sounds good! We will have to try and get together this spring.

Greg at Ron Tonkin usually organizes some drives, but I don't recall any last year.

I don't think I will be doing any drives out side of Salem area untill spring. I would love to do the Columbia River Hwy run or Maryhill as that is where I grew up.

My favorite PDX drive is to head out into the wine country toward McMinville. There are several great, twisty, lightly traveled roads. The local folks did this a couple years ago, with a trip to the Evergreen Aviation museum (where the Spruce Goose is, among others). A bit challenging this time of year, with the potential for frost/ice/downed tree limbs, but a great drive nonetheless. If there are sunny weekends during the winter, and I have 1-2 hours, that is where I head. Anyone (and I guess this would mostly apply to Portland folks) who might be interested in seeing the route/going on a drive should PM me with their phone numbers.

Also, I could talk to Greg at RTGT and see if we could sponsor a summer trip, like a month or two after Cannon beach. Could include the Museum, lunch at a winery--lots of options.

I grew up in Portland and rode superbikes for 10 years. I know most of the smooth, safe, less traveled roads in NW Oregon and the beach area. I should be able to shed some insite once I get into the F-Cat fold

The wine country is wonderful. Last summer we took the 365 down to a neat inn on the McKenzie River, and then drove from there up to McMinnville (not on I-5), spent the night, and then cut over to the coast.

I was really blown away by how nice downtown McMinnville is!
